    Toddler sleeps

    Hi!

Just wanting some ideas as to what to do about Louis' sleep at the moment...

He goes down fine through the day (had a rough patch a while ago but all good now!) and is usually down for 2-3 hours...
    But
Then he doesn't want to go to sleep at night...we read books etc until about 7.30pm tonight and then he was still talking in his room at nearly 9pm!
I even woke him up today but he still had about a 2 1/2 h nap and was up before 3pm...
He's also been waking around 6.30am so having quite short night sleeps as such...I much preferred it 7pm-7am!! He's a great sleeper now and it's not that he's being naughty as such - he just lies in bed and chats to his toys - so I'm not worried about our routine or how to get him asleep as such - more just how much sleep should he be having maybe??

I hate waking him up from his day sleeps but it seems if he has over 2 hours sleep during the day he just won't go to sleep at night...

    Any advice?? Thanks!

When my son Jacob has a day nap which lasts anywhere from 2-4 hours.. We have trouble getting him to bed that night as well.. We usually just let him stay out of bed till 8 ish as long as he is quiet then he goes to bed with no trouble.. We found if we made him go to bed at the normal time it was still after 9 when he would fall asleep

Krisite, I wish that my 2.5yr old DS would lie awake in his bed having a chat to himself.. LOL = I can't even get him to sleep in his bed letalone lie in there awake. I am lucky to get him down for a daysleep now to, which I have to say I am a bit sad about.

    Thanks for your replies!!

Mickyndan - LOL - it wouldn't be a problem but he shares a room with my 8mo so they keep waking each other up! If he had a room of his own he could just chat away...

Krisvee!! They are sooo cute in that photo!!!

I love little Dylan's eyes open with the expressive eyebrows, and fuzzy hair.

Why do they make babies just soooo cute??

Sorry, a bit off the track there!!

Hi Krisvee, My DD does the same. I heard somewhere that they should be getting 10-12hrs sleep a day so that's what Louis is getting. My DD quite often spends an hour before she drifts off. She's quite happy to sit in her room and just talk softly to herself and play with her teddies in bed. The only rules if any, that I impose are that she obviously stays in bed and doesn't talk out to us i.e. I want a cuddle, I want a drink, I want another story etc etc.....just tactics to either get out of bed or stay awake. She only ever sleeps on average for 1.5hrs during the day so her bedtime is pretty much kept to 7.30/8pm and she's alseep by 9pm, so you might just need to alter the bedtime routine by 30min...might make all the difference, or wake him up earlier in the day, but you mentioned you didn't really want to do that. (nor would I - all that time to get things done..hehehehehe).
