    Question Cold

Hi all... Does anyone know if there's anything special I should do for my little bub when he has a cold? This is the first cold his had and while he doesn't have a runny nose, he is phlemmy (sp?)... He almost 'chokes' on the phlem when coughing. I'm not sure if I should take him to a doctor or get something for him, or if like adults, he can just ride it out?

    Thanks in advance!

You can use a vapouriser to help with the congestion or steam up a bathroom and sit with him in there for a while. You can also buy fess nasal spray to help keep his nose clear, and there is Vicks for children that you can also use on his chest

Wow, thanks heaps Kathryn!! I didn't think of the bathroom...what a pity I showered while he was sleeping this morning... Tomorrow I'll do that for sure though!

Yep, i was going to suggest taking him in the shower. Being its cooler atm, any warm water (even baby suited temp) will make steam.
Other than that try Vicks Baby Balsam. A sample came in the Bounty Bags, if you still have it and just to keep his fluids up if possible.

If it's just a cold there's nothing the Dr can do as it's a virus so antibiotics won't help. Having said that though, if he gets lethargic or you're worried, get him to the Dr.

Zander is just starting to get over a cold now & we've just been keeping him warm in the house & making sure he's drinking lots. I would have our vapouriser on, but he's in a big bed now & I worry that he'll touch it & get burnt.

    Thanks all...

It's become a real 'chesty' cough but still nothing in the nose...and no other symptoms of a cold... I'm not sure what it could be but I'm thinking I might take him to the doctors in case it's a chest infection...

Just thought I'd add in here that it is Bronchiolitis that my DS has... Poor little fella has been miserable and we even spent 4 hours at the hospital 2 nights ago but hopefully he'll be on the mend soon. I don't know how/where he caught it but we're not going anywhere until he's better so we don't spread it.
