Ds has moved from cot to bed (his choice) he has just turned 2. But the only way he will go to sleep is if we are on the bed with him, then we have to sneak out.. if we leave before he is asleep he is up and down.. Any suggestions, any one else go thru this.. its so draining, and i know its creating bad habits.. he used to self settle in cot without ant problems
It is a big change for him and what he is doing (wanting ou near him) is so normal as he is doing something so brave and different for him and unfamiliar and he wants comfort and familiar people (mum and dad) with him as he tries this new bed business. I would personally stay with him till he drops off. It is not a bad habit if it is comfort for him and helps you to get time to yourselves in the evening. In time you can start moving a bit away from the bed every few nights (50cm) until you are near the door- gradually withdraw your presence. But there is no need at the moment until he is comfortable.
My DD decide at 16 months that she had dad enough of sleeping in a cot. She has been in a bed since. I need to stay with her each night until she goes to sleep and then quitely sneak out of the room. she then wake at about 230am. dd will then will only settle if taken into my bed. So i will be interested in any responses. Good to know I'm not the only one with this issue. Maternal health nurse said it was most likely just a phase (seems answer for everything). Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
