My DD is 14 weeks old and we don't have a 'routine' during the day b/c she wakes up whatever time in the morning, I just try to encourage her/resettle her until about 8am. She is then up and I feed her about 8.30am or when she 'looks' hungry, she is then up for 1.5 hrs after waking and I try to put her down for a sleep, sometimes she'll go for 45mins or a couple of hrs - am trying to encourage her to sleep longer atm. She is then up and we have a play/sing/dance/book - whatever until her next feed and then try to put her down for a sleep again, but only if she looks tired b/c otherwise she won't go. The afternoons are the worst, she catnapped today b/c I was at my grandmas and I have just put her down at 4pm, but alas I can hear her now.......
Night time I try to get her down at about 7pm, but we settle her for an hour, sometimes more. She is tired b/c she will sleep if cuddled.... BTW my DD is formula fed.....
With bubs not sleeping during the day, it's b/c they don't know how to resettle themselves. We need to get help them over the first sleep hurdle, which is usually 30-45 mins, then they should continue sleeping for longer. I find this really hard b/c I don't like listening to my DD cry or winge and I have been giving up really easily, but I am now trying to persevere this week and beyond. One mums in my mums group has this down pat (she got on top of it early with her son) and he can self settle himself during the day.
