Hi PZ and MG! I'm due Dec 28th, but baby is being delivered tomorrow due to some complications. My birthday is Dec 31st
I think it's a great time of year mainly for the same reasons already said, warm weather, school holidays, the atmosphere of excitement at that time if year... I'm an excitable person and I find that I really look forward to all of the celebrations in December, so adding my birthday and now my baby's birthday makes it all the more exciting!
Pregnancy and baby-wise, not being pregnant during the worst heat of summer has been good, and I wasn't really showing in winter either-meant I could be fairly flexible with my maternity wardrobe Doctors may take holidays over Christmas/New Year, but realistically they could do that anytime, and they have fill ins available usually anyway. We took advantage of Big W and Target Christmas laybys to get some stuff for baby, spread the payments out longer and also meant it wasn't laying around through the whole pregnancy. Great sales too once baby is here! I think this will be handy for birthdays too in future.
Some family members have complained at times (DPs mother, for example) told us it was terrible timing, and kept saying how terrible it would be if baby was born near Christmas. Obviously she overlooked that my bday is 6 days after Christmas! She has piped down now, but there's one in every bunch that will object, regardless of baby's due date!
I'm sure you'll embrace it no matter what, and I feel that if it became an issue being so close to Christmas, we could celebrate a week earlier or something, it's not unheard of for kids birthday parties that fall during the week or school term.
I'm a Christmas Day baby and my brother is a Boxing Day baby. Over the years we've both really struggled with our birthdays and Christmas as it has really felt like our birthdays don't matter or fall by the wayside. I think we had about 15 years where one or the other of us had a meltdown every Christmas because we didn't feel like our birthdays mattered. It probably didn't help that we saw the big deal being made out of our siblings June and August birthdays. Honestly I think his birthday is worse because the whole day is such an anticlimax.
My baby is due early jan but could well b a late dec baby.im a dec baby,my sister is a Xmas day baby an both our husbands r also born in December lol. And our son is January baby. It's always going to be a massively busy time of yr with or without a newborn, but so much more special with a new born!
Ds was born dec 15th I found it was easier to find people to help because most were on holidays and plenty of celebration leftovers to eat and bring round and having Christmas lunch with a little bubba just in time to eat ham and soft cheese again lol
Our DD2 was due on the 28th and the only thing I didn't want was a Christmas Day baby. She arrived spontaneously on 18th Dec, her uncle's birthday
It really wasn't a hassle at all leading up to her birth or after she had arrived. I was thankfully out of hospital for Christmas so I could be there for our DD1 who was 2 and excited about the big day. I made sure I was really organised and all my shopping had been done by the end of Nov. I was tired on Christmas Day but enjoyed it all the same.
As for the pregnancy, it was great in the sense that most of the awful heat was avoided. DH and my parents were off work over Christmas/New Year so the extra help was there once DD2 arrived.
DD2 party is on 15 Dec this year and we'll ensure she has a special celebration, separate to Christmas, each year. We too have bought gifts for various stages for both her birthday and Christmas so she'll have appropriate toys throughout the year.
I wasn't thrilled about having a December baby but I can see there are many benefits too - now and in the future
