I think it's worth giving a go during the day when I can check on him like you said. He has great head control and DD also started sleeping on her tum once she could roll. I'm a tummy sleeper too and couldn't imagine being forced to sleep on my back!
Thanks again, it's just nice to hear other people do the 'wrong' things too with all the rules they give you these days.
