I have a little DD who drinks heaps and heaps of water too, probably not as much as your DD but then again I dont really measure it as such, she always has a cup which i refill during the day for her and I drink stacks of water and pretty much everytime I get a drink she shares mine. My DD has been very irritable (which could be anything) she has not really gained weight since before 12 months but I dont think she has lost any, however I had her tested for diabetes last week and we get the test results tomorrow. My DD also sometimes gets a funny smelling breath which I have heard can also be a sign but again can also be other factors.
I really believe you should have her tested, its better to be safe than sorry, I dont want to scare you but Type 1 diabetes can turn bad very quickly and little ones can end up very sick. Most cases are not diagnosed in kids until they are very ill and taken to hospital. Get her tested.
Thankyou for your messages , I will get her into the Dr tomorrow to get her BLS done just to make sure, I did wonder about diabetes as my Boss had it and a girl I went to school hade Type 1, and I remember them both drinking of excess water being a marker for it.

fwiw i was never a water drinker but just b4 i was diagnosed i was drinking about 5-6 litres a day plus a min of 2 litres of soft drink a day.
its not pleasant constantly needing to drink and go to the loo!! i would speak unless i needed to because my tongue would stick to the roof of my mouth if i hadnt had a drink for about 10 mins. it was horrible!

Hi skybie, I find out the results tomorrow, so I am anxious for that to come around quickly. She was also tested for other things like iron etc , it was a very horrible experience for me as she had to have a blood test and I had to hold her, they couldnt find her tiny little veins and the first time didnt work so they had to try the other arm, DD was screaming, it tore my heart to pieces, one of the nurses came in to help and she said to DD oh it will be over soon you dont have to carry on, if I hadnt have been so angry with her comment i would have been crying. Poor thing sobbed for half an hour after. Then they ring me today and say that they managed to get all the tests completed form the small amount of blood they took except for the thyroid and they want her to go back again. I said I would talk to the doctor first and go from there.
I really do think its related to food additives and stuff but I wanted to rule out all medical stuff before hand. She also has an appointment with a paed just to have a good check. Thanks for asking xoxo
It does sound like a lot of water! DD sometimes drains a 260ml bottle during the course of the night, but during the day she doesn't drink as much as I would like. N seems to be having a lot! Definitely get her checked out for diabetes so you can cross it off assuming everything's OK. on the TT front Vic! Great work. From what I have read most bubs are still in nappies overnight until nearer to 3 so I wouldn't worry about that.
