Its so tough first..and second time around actually to know what to do. I dont have any toys as such for DS2 as my mum keeps pointing out to me *sigh* I juts talk to him lots and smile etc and this seems like enough...you could get play mat with toys over it but they do get bored easily? Can you borrow one?

Your doing a great job and I am sure she would never ever get bored of you...well maybe when she is a teenager lol

Hey Stevie. I sometimes wonder if Leila gets bored with me too! The best thing I have for her is like Boomba was saying, a mat with toys hanging down. She just LOVES it! She happily hits the toys dangling down and they all rattle and jingle and she finds it very entertaining, she talks to the toys and smiles and laughs at them all the time. Sometimes I add new toys and she is completely fascinated and very excited when she finds something new on there, it's so cute! Also just recently she's realised that she can kick the toys rather than just using her arms and she finds this to be very entertaining. I tend to alternate that with tummy time, walking around with her over my shoulder showing her things around the house and also sitting her on my knees facing me (with legs up and bent, kwim?) and I just talk to her about anything and everything, getting quite animated at times and she really loves that too! She smiles and looks at me very intently and moves her mouth as though she is trying to respond to me. She is definitely a baby that requires constant stimulation. She's very sociable and very very interested in everything around her so I find I need to constantly find things to keep her entertained - thankfully it doesn't take too much to amuse her! Hope some of those ideas help!

Also, if you don't mind second hand stuff you should go to op shops and look for toys. Everything I have was given to me so I haven't had to buy anything yet but my SIL gets heaps and heaps of great stuff from her local op shop - makes sense when they get bored with things so easily!

It's hard to know what to do isn't it? I'm sure she's not bored with you though - you're her whole world!!
I'd also suggest a play mat but try to borow one or find one second hand. Only because she'll "grow out" of it soon enough - my DS is almost 5 months & he's now officially over his play mat lol!!
DS enjoyed being sung to especially songs with actions such as Incy Wincy Spider etc. He also loved me making funny sounds or funny faces, oh geez he'd laugh his little head off!!
Maybe also some books? Board books are a great idea, ones with just pictures on the pages. You can make up tons of stories & she'll just love listening to your voice. I usually lie us both on the floor & hold it up so we can both see it.
Those links are great too!! I didn't think DS would find them very interesting but bought some anyway. Well he just loved them - holds them, chews on them, throws them around.
    Have fun!!

Stevie, if you want to come over here and try her on my playmat to see if she likes them, PM me - I'm at Mt Coolum. The other ladies have great advice for other things to do too.

    Here goes..

*Plonk her in the middle of the laundry you are folding and gently brush the different materials against her skin like terry towling and cotton and lace. It will feel nice for her and you get the folding done!

*Pop her in the pram and set her up next to a window or glass door she can see out of. Point out the differnt things she can see (For hot days when you don't really want to be outside walking)

*In the warm weather let her have lots of nappy free time on a towel or sheet (althoug my bub hated having her nappy off when she was this little)

*Put her in washing basket (if she fits comfortably) on the floor and gently throw some material like a towel or cotton sheet over the top and say "wheres DD?" then pull off material with the "here she is! I found you" . Repeat until the novelty wears off! Reason I say washing basket is so the sides keep the material from covering her face.

    *Blow bubbles for her

*Lots of books & singing songs. Keep yourself amused too and sing songs you like not just nursery rhymes

    * Put the radio on and dance around the living room to P!nk with DD in your arms

*Give DD house tours - "this is the bathroom, that's where we get clean, this is your bedroom or will be oneday" I remember my DD being suprised one day when I took her into her room because we never went in there. I had everything in our room and it was this whole new room to explore and show her.

*Anything you do with her where you are talking, holding, comforting, making funny faces, singing - whatever! is entertaining for your bub. YOU are her greatest toy at this stage.

I would definitely recommend getting a play mat/play gym...DD is 6 months and still loves hers, it's great to pop her under when I'm trying to get meals ready (it's always in the kitchen) or need to put her down so I can go to the toilet! Now that she can roll over it gives her a whole new perspective on it too. we got the Fisher Price rainforest one which plays music as well and she loves listening to it.

Do you take her outside? I take DD for a walk in the pram most mornings, so we can walk the dog, but it's also nice to get out of the house for a bit, and not have to think about entertaining her for at least a little while...she likes looking at everything and just recently has a lot of fun trying to grab the dog's lead. lol.

I posted a thread on a similar topic when DD was about the same age..will see if I can find it for you as it had some great ideas.

when Izzy is having happy awake time, i put her on my lap and we have us time.
i clap her hands together (it makes her giggle) i sing to her, read her books or just generally talk to her and try to make her laugh.
i tell her how much i love her and how beautiful i think she is, i tell her all the things her big sister does that annoys me and ask her to be a perfect toddler when she grows up so that mummy never has to be cross with her.
i tell her about kinder and primary school and high school, we talk about her wedding day and when she has babies....you'll be suprised the broad range of boring topics that u can talk about that can keep them entertained
