We are in Melbourne so at the moment down to 6 ish at night, but even on a 15 degree night izzy will have a s/s jumpsuit, socks, a polar fleecy Bonds jumpsuit, a 2.5 grobag, plus a flannel sheet, a cotton blanket and a polar fleece blanket over the top all tucked in! SOunds like heaps but she is never overheated, but isn't a hot baby generally so we find it works for us. If we used the Grobag recommendations even for 16 degrees (which it was when she was a newborn - we had a heater in her room at 16) she would get cold. I would trial a blanket over him and tuck it all in around him and see how he goes.

I'm in Sydney and we don't run the heater overnight. Its get to the single figures in temperature. On our bed we have a very heavy wool doona and electric blanket so I don't think a 2.5 tog sleeping bag is enough for Oliver. I currently have for him:
Singlet
Short sleeve bodysuit
Wondersuit
2.5 tog sleeping bag (sleeveless)
sheet
fleece blanket
And in the last week I've added the cot quilt as well as he was waking again (yes, I know, but its tucked in at the foot of the cot like the sheet and blanket so I fail to see how it can be a greater risk than if I were to pile 2-3 loose blankets on top). Oliver sleeps with his arms up so I think he looses a lot of heat that way - he always has icecubes for hands in the mornings.
We use a gro bag also but i found maddy was cold with just the bag so we go like this!!!

ifts is REALLLYL cold ill add another light blanket, but we have heater set to not let house drop below 16deg at night so its normally ok...
Prior to me realising she was cold we didnt have the extra heavy blanket on there, now we dont get any 3-4am wake up (too often)
Maddy always has her arms up at night or she hugs her teddy so thats why we have mittnes on, although some morning they are soaked as she sucks her hands!!!
