ok so my little miss is almost 18 months old and I think we are getting desperate for a haircut..
I don't want to trim it myself.. What should I do. (hairdresser) Should I ask for it to be neatened up or give it an actual cut?
Any suggestions? Her hair is very thin and fly away. It is in her eyes. It is long at the back and when stretched out it is almost below her should blades but it is slightly curly so stays up around her neck area.
Also the way it sits most of it falls forward over her face..
I probably am not making myself very clear lol.. I guess I am nervous about the first haircut.. Boys are so easy in this area..
Hello! My DD first haircut was just a fringe trim to get it out of her eyes...now she just has trims to neaten it up so that it grows healthy. her hair is very curly and although it is down below her shoulder blades it bounces back up to her neck because of the curls...although my sister is a hairdresser so she does it..would probably be far more nervous if i didn't know the hairdresser!
I took dd to the salon, just for a straighten-cut. Her hair was WAAAY longer on the one side, so they just leveled it out and trimmed her fringe, while I fed her Tic-Tacs to keep her sitting still
DD had her first haircut the week before her 1st birthday. I just got the hairdresser to trim it to her eyebrow line and then the hairdresser just trimmed the back so it was even. At 14 months her hair is starting to get in her eyes again and is getting thicker. I'd like to be able to put it up but she doesn't sit still (just like a typical 14 month old). I do try to brush her fringe to the side now and have to get some clips soon to keep it there.
Sounds like my DD's hair, she's thin and super curly. DH gave DD her first hair cut much to my disgust and horrorI would recommend againt that
I'd ask the hair dressers opinion, they will prob suggest a cut to help thicken it up a bit.
Yeah at the moment I part dd's fringe in the centre, make two little fountians on the top (like pig-tails) and pin down any escaped fringe. It's a workout, and some days it does not stay in very long, but seeing my "little girl" awwwwwwww it's worth every bead of sweat and all the body contortion!!
WOW I've given my DD 4 fringe trims already. The first was 11months. At 13months I trimmed a bit off the back too and took the frizzy split bits off the back that she got from sleeping rough It helped it to look thicker too, now it's like a bob but hers is dead straight.
I think if it grows like my DD's, towards the face, you may want to keep it long enough to tie back so make sure they just tidy the ends of the back, and keep the length if that's what you want.
Hope she sits nice and still for her first cut. how cute!
DD1 was bald til she was 3. I went in & just asked for a trim so it was all level. $6.
DD2 scored her first hair cut from DD1!!! Cut off all the curls. Went from shoulder length to ear length, but it was cute
DD1 also gave DD2 & herself their second hair cuts!
I'm gonna have to get Jesse's cut It's dredding at the back every morning & I have to slick it with conditioner & comb it out while in the shower to fix it! He needs a trim, but what do you do with a boy? What do you ask for?? He can't just have a trim. It needs to be boyish, but I would like to grow it too...
If you get a trim all over it will help it look like she has more hair. My girls had hair like that at the same age (only my eldest DD has dead straight hair, so you can imagine how ratty and stringy it looked) and I would get it all trimmed up, get the fringe defined (if you are wanting her to have a fringe) and then persevere with putting it up and getting it trimmed regularly and they eventually got to the stage where it didn't look so fly-away anymore.
DD1 has lots and lots of thick wavy hair so I started trimming her fringe by myself when she was a baby. At 18mo I took her to the hairdresser for a real fringe cut. She was great and sat in the special chair with the special cape on feeling like a big girl. She got a treat afterwards. The rest of her hair didn't get touched until she was 3 and she had a proper cut - it is so long that when it is wet it touches the small of her back!!!
Ash has the same sort of hair, with it growing forward like you said.
So in the end I made her a fringe myself. Note: Don't cut it too short, lol, I cut her fringe and same day a friend from work said to me "you cut it yourself didn't you?" It did look bad. I still trim her fringe but just enough out of her eyes, haven't been game to do the rest yet. Its so fine her hair drives me nuts.
I usually cut both of my girls hair myself in the bath. They are busy playing with the water and toys and I can get it quite even. I only do the fringe to eyebrow level and it is always straight. I have never had anyone ask if I did it, I have had some ask which hairdresser I went to. I have only learned by watching. Unless they are distracted I find it impossible to cut their hair, and will only do it wet because they are curly.
Darcy has thin flyaway blonde hsir too. She refuses to let me brush it so since her first haircut I've had it cut into a below ear bob. LZooks neat and the hair is getting to look a bit thicker now.
FWIW I took my DS to get a haircut because it was so flyaway but he still didn't really have a full head of hair, it was so fine and curly and you could still see his scalp easily.
It was once I started getting it cut that it really thickened up and started growing like crazy. I always thought that was a bit of a myth but it isn't - I would get it trimmed and neatened up and then sit back and watch your DD's hair grow! I really truly don't think it was a coincidence, I had to take him back for his second cut after only 6 weeks and he was 20 months old for his first haircut.
I took him to see my own hairdresser who has a lovely sweet gentle nature with kids and he loves her. I trusted her to cut his hair so that it looked nice (I didn't really know what I wanted to do with it either) and she point-cut it to bring out his curls. A hairdresser will probably have a couple of suggestions for you if you don't know what to do with it.
My kids have all been born with heaps of hair so have had haircuts at 6 months! I took them to the hairdressers cause at school I see so many terrible home jobs!! cCutting it might thicken it up too.
DS just gets done by DH with the clippers.
