How long did your child wear their amber teething necklace for?

ooooh, I'm subscribing, great question. My DS is heading up to 2, and he still has his on. I think I will try to take it off after he gets his two year old molars, and see if I notice any difference in his behaviour. I've read they are great for more than just teething, so I don't have any problems with his continuing to wear it.

Does everyone else just leave the necklace on their LO all the time? That's what I've done...

Somehow I've made it through three years of motherhood without ever finding out what an Amber teething necklace is. I've heard about them a lot lately though. So far I've gathered that they're good, but.. What are they? What do they do? Where can you get them? How much are they? TIA

My DD is 1, so I def will not be taking it off for a long time. Yes she wears it all the time. I never remove it ever.
She has swimming lessons etc, and always has it on.

I find people comment quite often about the "nice' necklace she is wearing. THen when I explain what it is, they sort of look at me with a lot of scepticism. (sp)

skeetaboat- they are necklaces made from small beads of baltic amber. That particular type of amber releases an oil when in contact with the heat of the body which is a natural pain reliever, as well as having many other benefits. You can get them very easily from several websites (maybe look in the BB marketplace, I'm sure someone on here must sell them!), and I paid about $30 for DS's. I am thinking of getting one for myself! I have definately noticed a difference in DS's teething experiences pre and post necklace.

lilma- people comment on my DS's necklace all the time too- he looks like a little surfer dude! And yes, when I explain, people give me puzzled looks as well!!

DS has his on 100% of the time too
and will stay on until it falls off.

Ohh me too! - i usually get "well isn't that a bit dangerous to let her chew on something that has such small beads?" - i then go on to explain that yes it is a teething necklace, but no, they don't chew on the beads, the succinc acid in the baltic amber releases natural analgesia through the skin etc etc - i then just get the vacant look and "well its very pretty"

DS also has one on and i never remove it at all either. It didn't go down too well with the health nurse at our last appt though (6 months). We're going next week and i think i'll take it off prior to going in just so save myself from the lecture again.

I don't see myself removing it any time soon, he is not bothered by it at all and we still only have two teeth so we've got a fair bit of 'teething' to go yet. The two we have appeared without any fuss so lets hope the same is to follow.

I get comments all the time also, most assume it's for looks not for a purpose until you explain it to them. I also get the 'surfer dude' comments and somehow on occasions have them assume he's a girl

My DS has had his necklace on from the age of 7 months....it's never been taken off. He will be 2.5 next month! He is yet to get his 2 year old molars, so will wait till after that probably. He's never fiddled with them so will probably just keep it on till his neck gets too big!

How tight are they? Could they be a choking hazard at all (I mean if they got it caught on something and fell, not choking on the beads)? I hope I don't sound like one of the annoying onlookers.. I'm just asking because I'm now thinking of getting one but I've never seen them and really have no knowledge on them besides what I've just learned from you lovely ladies.

Can adults use them for things like neck pain?

My DS has been wearing his since around 3 months old, he is now almost 19 months. I always get the "surfer dude" or "hippy" comments but always good comments, everyone loves it.

I havent taken it off for anything, not for the bath or sleeping. He sometimes plays with it or chews on it but it doesnt bother him at all

Iain has worn his for ever. I use to put i ton his ankle / wrist when he was little little because it was too long but I have a different one now that sits just nice around his neck so that is where it stays.

I have often wondered if leaving it on would weaken it? As is they would get use to the level of "pain relief" Im not gaME TO TAke it off though. Iain is cutting molars & eye teeth atm & he is pretty sooky even with it on so hate to think what he would be like with out it.
