Firstly, I just realised who you are

Secondly, I agree with all the PP - you are doing a fantastic job and Mr P is just doing his own thing. I don't think I would recommend more weigh-ins if they only stress you further. And besides, stress doesn't help you, your milk supply, or Mr P.

Massive Belle. Thinking of you and your very sweet boy.

UA I used to get comments from people asking if #1 had been unwell, if he had enough feeds, etc...he was a long and skinny one too. The only saving thing for me was that in my head I KNEW that he was eating enough, his output was fine, he was happy, chirpy, not lethargic. He just didn't look like all those chubby delights. You talk about leg rolls - that sounds good, #1 never had those. Stringbean to the max.

If you think there's a problem, then get him checked out, but if the only issue is that he looks more slender than other babies, I really wouldn't worry. I think that people forget about genetics sometimes.
And, funnily, I didn't change much with my parenting of #2 and he was as roly poly as they come. My stringbean and butterball.

haha Nelle - he doesn't have leg rolls, not even close. But when he was born and for a few months after he had skin rolls, whereas you see most bubs with fat rolls. He has filled into his skin now

First of all I'm sure you're not a terrible mother....you're concerned enough to put in this post!

Bubs always lose weight in the first week after they're born so cross that worry off you list. I had a great CHN who told me that as long as he doesn't drop down 2 percentile on the growth chart in a month then he's doing fine. My youngen is a lightweight too but he's been in that percentile since birth.

I'm pretty sure that the ABA says 5 really wet nappies is good - and well mine went through a stage of poos every second day only and a friend of mine well her little one used to only go every 10 days. I rang the ABA when I had some doubts about him getting enough to eat and the lovely lady ran through a checklist with me. I think you can get it off their website. The other thing to look for is that his eyes are nice and clear and his skintone has good colour and if you lightly press on his arm it doesn't stay indented but springs back. Honestly they are great to chat to and will put your mind at ease.

    Best of luck! X

You are doing a great job and bub sounds like he is doing beautifully.

I can sympathise with you we have endless weight battles around here, stick by your guns, if you don't want to formula feed you don't have to!

    Keep up the good work

You are obviously a great mum - you wouldn't be worried about your little man if you weren't! He is obviously a healthy, happy bub - it doesn't matter if he isn't really chubby! And from experience topping him up with formula won't necessarily change his build. My first DD was formula fed and DD 2 is fully breast fed, never had formula and looking at their baby books they are gaining weight exactly the same! Sometimes our babies are just the size they are

I'd love to know who it is that planted the seed of doubt in Mummys minds that all out babies have to be chubby in order to be healthy. I too have a little skinny minny baby and at times wonder when I will ever be truely comfortable that he is what he is and there is nothing wrong!

Listen to what all the pps have said and come back again and read their comments at the moments when the self doubt creeps back in. From what you've said he's obviously healthy and happy. If I find the magic solution to not worrying I promise you'll be the first person I tell. All of my friends had bubs who were in the percentile charts well above 50% so it never even occured to me that i could have a 10% bub. What I've been told time and time again is to check (over reasonable period of time) that they are tracking along the same line and then all is good.

You are a fantastic Mummy and your son is lucky to have you on his side xxx

DS eats all day and I can see his spine and ribs. I'm not malnourished and you can see mine.

You're completely correct when you say if your son wanted more then he would ask for it. There you go, he's getting enough.

First of all, if he wasnt getting what he needed he would be having more. IL's sometimes need to butt out.

My eldest son was born @ 37 weeks 1 day in 06, so he was early but he took after his father and 30mins after he was born was having a bottle, Where as my youngest who was may of 09 was born 40 weeks 4 days and is not as heavy or physically as big as my eldest as he takes after me.

I think you have no reason to worry he sounds like he is doing awesome, every child is different some eat like a horse and gain no weight

and the result is - 5.5kg!! 500g in 5days just to make sure it was a good weigh in cheeky monkey
Still just under the curve, but the CHN wasn't concerned by his weight really because he is still growing to his own curve, and it is still on the up. His head circumference and height are still on track as well so no disproportion. She was also really impressed with his development, his interaction and abilities.

She has said we can get a referral to a pediatrician if we want, but she doesn't feel there is any need for it. She has suggested that we slowly start to introduce solids and we will see how he goes from there. I know that it isn't a guarantee for him to start putting on weight, but it will be fun We will also be going with BLS which she was happy to support and give information on.

As all you lovely ladies have said, he is a happy little boy and has a mum who has his best interest at heart. Her 'assessment' of him has been an additional pat on the back for me and boost in my confidence as a mother, when the IL's are constantly planting a seed of doubt. As she told me today, 50years ago P's build would have been the 'normal'.
