I'm not sure, but DS2 is nearly 20 months old and doesn't often do firm poos still (you gotta love talking poo when you become a mum ). He did a couple this week and that's pretty unsual for him. DS1 was exactly the same, I thought he should have had more firm poos than he did, but he was fine.
Bit of a story... DD has had a gastro virus for nearly a week and we have taken her to the dr's several times. He said that due to the virus, it might make her lactose intolerant for a bit. I asked how would I know, and he said her stools will stay loose after the 10-14 days that the virus would generally last for. ...sooooo perhaps your DS is a little lactose intolerant?
Seeing as he is still on formula, perhaps try switcing him to a lactose free formula (which our dr said we may have to do, but it should clear/fix her system within a couple of weeks and can then go back to 'normal' formula) and see if that makes any difference?
You know, it could be normal, but given that we are an intolerance family I tend to be more paranoid about these things, so would say to get it checked out. How your poo comes out is a good indication of either what's going in, and/or how your body is processing it. I know since removing the foods DS is allergic to from his diet, his poos have improved considerably .
