We might have a case of gastro going through the house. Not too sure tho cause DH first thought he has food poisoning and was in bed for two days. Then yesterday my stomach starting cramping up real bad and I spent most of the afternoon on the toilet, today is it cramping but thats it.
So now I am worried that DD may be getting it. She has had two major spews tonight, both were after a feed. She does have an ear infection at the moment. So what should I be looking out for if it is gastro? And do I need to get her in to see a doctor or only if she is throwing up constantly?
You want to watch for deydration hun, so make sure she is still having her normal wet nappies, and drinking and keeping down her fluids... you can water down her milk a bit if you think her tummy is upset, and if she has diarhea (sp?) then just watch that doesn't go on too long either. Offer her small frequent drinks throughout the day. to you all, hope you all get better soon.
Awww that's yukky!! hope you all get better fast! I'm not sure as to tell tale signs apart from the obvious - really soft to runny pooey nappies and/or vomiting, temps and if you've had cramping, just watching her for the same type of pain. Poor lovey with an ear infection on top!! Oh hope she stays clear for hers and your sakes!!
I agree with Tanstar too on the water if you can but not heaps all at once as it can make her little tummy too bloated. So like Tanstar said, small and frequent through out the day. Thinking of you all lovey
We have all been sick recently with the gastro bug..its been going around sydney so many people have had it.. ds started spewing and was off food for a few days... he couldnt have milk he'd just throw it straight back up again.. 2 days later my partner and i woke up to throwing up all morning and needing to stay in bed all day... We started off having the bad cramps aswell
As for the docs there isnt much they can do at all...but tell you dehydration is the most important factor...they rec. the gastrolyte which is a powder form you mix with water... you get the baby formulation thats flavoured. it contains electrolytes which rehydrate you... especially important as when you vomit you lose alot of sodium/water from your body...
You should all be back to normal within 2 weeks... DS is so happy again now..and is in to all his food again...
If your little one is having trouble holding milk down you could use a lactose free formula... or offer rice milk which is a great alternative as its sweet and yummy for them...(its very much the same consistency as breastmilk i think,,,and ds loves it.
Just make sure you clean your home well afterwards, dissenfect toys, doors, tables, toilets, showers etc... to get rid of the nasty bug...
They also say allow 24-48 hrs after the last vomit before close contact with other people because gastro is highly contagious so you will give it to others, and you dont want that
Hi.
DD2 had rota virus when she was 6 months old. It started on the sunday. I took her to the doc on Tuesday who just said to keep an eye on her wet nappies. Took her back on Thursday coz she was still sick. She still wasn't dehydrated, so went home again. Went back on the Friday & was sent to the hospital for monitoring.
Ended up getting transfered to a bigger hospital for the night, but they were still amazed she wasn't more dehydrated.
I cut out milk & she only had water from the Tuesday. I think it's 10 mls every 10 minutes.
She did lose some weight, but it's the water you have to keep up. Milk & other foods can feed the stomach bug & make it worse.

well I do think it is gastro. I've just tried to give her a breastfeed, she came off and then everything came back up again. What am I meant to do? She cant keep down food and she cant keep down milk. She seems to be ok with water as she had a little bit and was fine..
My poor munchkin has to suffer from an ear infection AND gastro!
