mosquito bites on 6 month old

    hi

just wondering what I can use to alleviate the discomfort of some mosquito bites on our little boy.

They are on his hand and wrist...they have swelled up a little this morning with litle bumps underneath the heads...he woke up 5 times last night so I think they may be bothering him.

    What can I use?

    cheers!

monnie, I was going to suggest Euky Bear Rub, as it can be used for insect bites as well, but the paw paw ointment sounds like a good one.

When we were little, my mother always made a thick paste of bicarb soda (a tablespoon) and water (not very much- a few drops) and put it on our mozzie bites and it WORKS like MAGIC. It is cheap and is usually in the cupboard and stops the itch straight away and send the bites packing. Give it a go before buying anything else.

Deidre, that sounds fantastic, I'm saving that for future reference.

The best thing i've found for them (reduces itching as well as swelling) is Paraderm Plus first aid cream. DD1 used to come out in these huge welts and they go straight down with this. But I'll be trying the bicarb next time...

I got paw paw from the chemist, but it wouldn't surprise me to see it on the shelves of a biggish supermarket. Hope he's more comfy soon.

Monnie - i use Bepanthen First Aid - its an antiseptic cream and is about half the price of the other brands and then i also have it there for scraps and cuts for the rest of us.

I've always just used vinegar or a cold compress - ice is great if it is tolerated.
