Ok so i have tried to move Chelsea since she was 16 months...now nearing 21 months and still refuses to leave her cot (making poor Jasmine sleep in the Porta cot).
She has a gorgeous bed with nice linen, glow in the dark quilt...her teddies sleep in bed....but she WONT!
Chels tucks her doll in and shh nigh nigh baby....but wont hop in herself!
I really need the cot badly for Jasmine asap....otherwise come January ill have a newborn in the cradle...who will grow out of it and i wont have a bed for him/her to sleep in..and a 2nd cot isnt an option.
So how do i move her....????
I place night light on, tuck her in, say good night, make her comfy, love you's and kisses..then shut the door.
Then the screams and wall banging starts....
So i go in and she is standing by her cot asking for 'Up'..once in her cot goes to sleep straight away.
Hmmmm if it were me, I'd probably take the cot out of the room and try to settle her in her bed by either lying down with her or sitting beside it. I don't know if its a gentle approach you are looking for... but maybe out of sight, out of mind??
Is the Cot in the same room as the bed?? If it is then that could be the problem? she can see the cot and wants it! not sure sorry Kim, hope you can work it out
i would definitely not have the cot and bed in the same room though.
Hmmm not thought of that....the cot is in her room.....cos i felt bad taking it away and replacing the cot with the bed.....maybe thats the problem i have caused....she sees the cot and knows that what she sleeps in....
But what do i do if i take the cot away and she still wont sleep in the bed?? She wont sleep in our bed either....
This may sound like cruel and unusual punishment but it worked for a friend of mine. She had done the same thing and left the cot in the room. First she took the cot away and left the mattress on the floor. Each night she would put her DS into bed and he had the option of getting up later and being on the mattress. About a week later the mattress disappeared and she heard him get up and went in and put him back into bed and that was it. It seemed to be very much an out of sight out of mind thing after that.
A couple of other things you could try are putting the cot quit on the bed so that it feels and smells a bit more like normal or even moving the bed to where the cot has been.
I would do as the others have suggested, take the cot out of her room. Explain to her that she's a big girl now, and she can have a big bed. Let her help you take it away. If it needs to be done (which it does) then you just have to bite the bullet and do it. Good luck.
Right...so it needs to be outta sight.....might start on the weekend....take the cot out and let her have the mattress for a week...but always put her into bed first..
Ekk....my poor baby she does need to do the 'hand me down' trick and let Jasmine have the cot now though!!
