This may sound like cruel and unusual punishment but it worked for a friend of mine. She had done the same thing and left the cot in the room. First she took the cot away and left the mattress on the floor. Each night she would put her DS into bed and he had the option of getting up later and being on the mattress. About a week later the mattress disappeared and she heard him get up and went in and put him back into bed and that was it. It seemed to be very much an out of sight out of mind thing after that.
A couple of other things you could try are putting the cot quit on the bed so that it feels and smells a bit more like normal or even moving the bed to where the cot has been.
I would do as the others have suggested, take the cot out of her room. Explain to her that she's a big girl now, and she can have a big bed. Let her help you take it away. If it needs to be done (which it does) then you just have to bite the bullet and do it. Good luck.
Right...so it needs to be outta sight.....might start on the weekend....take the cot out and let her have the mattress for a week...but always put her into bed first..
Ekk....my poor baby she does need to do the 'hand me down' trick and let Jasmine have the cot now though!!
Kim, have you tried day sleeps in the bed? Also, maybe a bed rail on the bed... maybe she feels insecure not having something "around" her? I remember with Joshua we had the cot and bed in his room and he had day sleeps in the bed and then went into it completely.. mind you he did still get up and try to come out for a while..lol.
