Which one do u prefer? Baby Sling or Carrier

I had a carrier with my last baby and it seemed to really cut the circulation off to her legs (I was probably doing something really really wrong but we only used it twice). So anyways was thinking about going with the sling this time but I have a question about it though. How does the baby not roll out if u know what I mean? It just doesnt look as safe as the carriers do. What do urs reckon?

Mmmm I like the sling and the way its shaped means she cant roll out - but she prefers the carrier!! I think she feels a bit constricted in the sling!

It depends on the sling, there are different designs.
Hug-a-bub style slings hold the baby upright so they can't fall out

I have 2 carriers, and a borrowed sling. Personally, I only like one of them, which is the Baby Bjorn carrier. It's really easy to bubs in and out of, and doesn't put a lot of strain on my back. The cheaper version is absolutely what I paid for - cheap and nasty. By the time I was finished strapping Annika in, she was grizzly and ready to hop out again. The sling was good for when she was younger, but I always worried about her poor neck and back. It is shaped in such a way that bubs can't roll out, but I always worried about doing anything to energetic, just in case. I feel that the carrier has a lot more support, and just gives me piece of mind. Hope this helps!

Jodie, I found our BabyBjorn to be really great for when River was a newborn, he was light and he loved to snuggle in with his head on my chest. He hated being held in the cradle position, so a sling was out!

Now that he's heavier, I have a Mei Tai from BearHugBaby and it's really really comfy - and I can wear him on my front or back so my hands are free!

Other options for a newborn might be a wrap (like the Hugabub) or a pouch?

Does anyone you know have something you might be able to try out when your bub comes? Or are you wanting to be all organised before that.
The good thing about Baby Bjorns is that they have pretty good resale value, so if you or your baby hates it, you can just sell it on.

Good luck with your decision making - there's so many options out there, have fun deciding!

I didnt use either with our first but used a carrier with the second

now with the third on the way I'll be using the carrier again, it was great, comfortable, she loved it

I'm sure the slings are probably great too but they scare me, some of the ones I've seen look like the baby could fall out with the slightest movement

Maybe find some 'instore' you can try out?

Hi. I've got both a Baby Bjorn and a Bubba Moe sling. My DD is 8 weeks old now and I've only just gotten her happily into the Baby Bjorn and find it great to use around the house when she's awake and content. The sling is great for when you're out and about because they can sleep snuggly, you can cover them up from the sunshine and wind, you can discreetly bf (I have bf while walking around the supermarket) and you can put them in different positions as they get bigger. My DH loves the sling too, it's got more street cred! If you can only get one I would opt for the sling but maybe by shopping around for instamce on ebay you could get one of each and have the best of both worlds

I prefer the sling, it's supposed to be better for the spine and hips (of the baby, although mine benefit too). DS is a real wiggle-bum baby; he has never fallen out of the sling. He has once managed to wriggle so that he wasn't as secure in the sling as he should be (started off facing me, ended up cuddled next to my tummy), but he was still secure in the sling. He was fast asleep - when he's awake and tries to free his arms I just tuck them back into place. And he rarely tries to free himself as he loves the sling, especially when DH is wearing it. The Baby Bjorn just hurt my back and shoulders when carrying DS for any distance, the Kari-Me (UK's version of HAB) is so comfortable.

I'm sure a local friendly BB girl (and aren't they all friendly?) will let you try their sling for a couple of hours if you're worried about safety, but they really are fantastic.

I had both and the Baby Bjorn won hands down. It is easy to get bub in and out of and is great for quick trips into the school to get DD#1. My SIL preferred the sling, so I suppose it all comes down to personal choice and also what bub prefers. I'm sure you'll work out what's best for you.

I definately prefer a sling too..have used carriers...bought them mainly for Dh to use but bubs have never seemed as comfy in them. I had a bubbalugga and Sammy just used to love it and sleep in it all the time.
