I too am anti earrings on young girls. I just think it looks tacky. Sorry. We won't be allowing our DD to have hers done till she's at least 10. I had to wait till 10 to get mine done & it hasn't hurt me any. Definitely agree with a few of the other girls though, you can't do this without DP agreeing & definitely don't bring a third party into it. I imagine it will just cause a major blue. Ultimately the decision is yours & DP, so do what you feel is right.
DD had them done @ 18mths and was fine. It all comes down to personal choice. Never had a problem with them but if we did we would have removed them for sure.
I'm with you Leash! DD1 got hers done at 7, DD2 was 8 but hers got infected and she took them out but she had them done again at 10 and they have been great this time as she has been more responsible with them and looked after them better.
My dad didn't let me get mine done until I was 14! Mum got hers done at the same time LOL
DD1 wanted the top of her ear pierced when she was 14 so DH did it for her! She now doesn't have any earrings in most of the time although she has a belly ring.
I am not a huge fan either - I got mine done for my 8th birthday and I remember them getting infected. I have always thought that I want my kids to be old enough to look after their own ears - clean them etc - as well as their own earrings and stuff. It's a responsibility thing. Also, as a PP mentioned about the positioning of them - I have a couple of friends who got their ears pierced quite young and they have had to have them redone because the positioning hasn't worked as they have gotten older.
If you plan to get your baby's or toddler's ears pierced, apparently there is a numbing gel from the chemist that you can apply half an hour before they have it done to help with the pain. I have friends who have used it and swear by it, but no idea what it is called.
