Hmm 3 weeks he could definitely still be in the fun novelty phase with the bed. DD is still in the cot but when she's restless putting books in and a bottle of milk with her does usually help us too.

Yeah I have been watching what he seems most amused with and it seems to be the fact that he can get to us when he wants. I am no longer staying in his room with him as he is 10 times worse. Tonight has been 45 minutes and I think it will be another 10 before he's asleep. I think it would have been less but he needed a nappy change.

We are both happier in the last 2 nights so I think given some time he will be much better.

    Sounds like a plan.

No matter when they start in the bed, there'll be a novelty phase ... whether it's like this, or more or less is impossible to know. If he's not distressed, then I'd stick with it.

Definitely not distressed, he giggles every single time he gets caught out of his room

When we moved DS into his bed, we built it up to be a big deal, but we also kept the cot up in his room. We told him if he got out of bed, he'd have to sleep in the cot.
The first night he tested us within 10 minutes of going to bed - I got him and put him straight into the cot. He wasn't impressed!
The next night... Same thing. Night 3 - he knew I wasn't mucking around and he stayed in bed.

Having said that, he was almost 3, so was old enough to understand cause and effect.

Under 45 minutes again tonight and I am noticing a big change in little Mr's attitude/cheekiness. He knows now he will get put straight back to bed and he is not playing up nearly as much. Thanks everyone, you have saved this mumma from going insane

Well we ended up putting him back in they cot on Sunday. Yes he had improved some originally but I just couldn't cope with it taking 50 - 90 mins on average. We will try again in a few months, he doesn't seem phased either way to be honest

MummaT I confess DD who is just two is still in the cot because I don't have the energy to deal with her mucking around/running around. I figure after we have all adjusted to life with babe #2 I will give it a go.

If he's not too bothered either way, he's probably not ready, no big deal! Save yourself the headache.
