Presents for a one year old!

I'm stuck at what to buy Em lol

We went nuts at Christmas and he has heaps of toys already. He has a heap of the FP Roll-around range which he loves, a car walker, a trike, toy phone, blocks, FP Learning Puppy, trains... he loves playing with it all but at the same time I don't think there's any challenge in it now. So I want to get him new stuff but it all seems the same. He loves his shape sorter and making noise lol.

I'm actually finding that the more expensive stuff seems pointless. I'm also finding the stuff meant for 1 year olds seems to basic but it then jumps up to 2 or 3 plus and has small parts and is too advanced for him lol.

I have bought him a cute music set that has a drum, tambourine, maracas and harmonica (lucky mum lol). I've also got him on those peg thingos which has the plastic rings in different sizes that you put over the peg? (Did that make sense lol?). I've got him a few DVD's - he loves Hi 5 lol.

My only other idea is one of the old wooden toys which has the bent metal in crazy shapes that has the beads on them! I used to love playing with them. But I have no idea where you would get something like that from.

So does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for some toys that will challenge him and he won't get bored with?

For Lindsay's 1st birthday, we made him a toybox LOL, a big one with a drawer on the bottom. As for those toys you were talking about with the wooden base and the metal puzzle with the beads to push on it, try checking out modernteachingaids they supply preschools and daycares and they have some pretty good stuff.

Lea - Kids Central sells a few of those bead, metal thingy's as we got Ella one for Christmas. She loves it.
Other suggestions are puzzles, craft stuff like a chalkboard/magnet/whiteboard easle, jumbo chalk, Kids Central also sells large felt magnets in numbers and letters, playdough, books....

I saw a Little Peoples set Vic and I wondered about that. I think I might put that on the list as well as puzzles (thanks Rae!). He has one puzzle which he just loves lol!

One toy of that site that I love is where there are four holes and 4 balls and a hammer. You have to hit the balls through their holes and they can travel down through the toy and do things which I thought was cool and he doesn't have anything like that.

Thanks for the ideas guys. Not only am I stuck but I everyone is asking me what to get him lol!

I was going to suggest a box and wrapping paper as for sure he will love playing with that more!LOL

Gem loves the little people and she got a musical set. We got her a nursery set for her baby too, but that doesn't help you!PMSL

how about a tea set and dolly? oscar loves feeding his doll and carrying it around. he also loves little people and will play for hours with them. he is a big fan of play dough and will sit in his high chair and play with that for ages as well. he also has a cooking set that he will make food and then feed himself, me, the boys and his doll.
    hope this helps good luck

Duplo is good too for that age, Riley is having a ball with his sisters old stuff, I think his favourite part is the noise it makes when he tips the bucket up!
Puzzles are really great for fine motor development, get the ones with pegs on each piece.
We are going to get R. a 'Eurotrike" bike with a handle for us to hold, it has a safety belt and is good for 1+.

Tallon still puts everything in his mouth, so no playdoh here! hehe.

We have lots of books, he plays with a shapesorter, and loves throwing a ball around. He's happy playing with plastic cups and things! LOL - he's easily pleased.

DH doesn't want lots of toys Which is good I spose. The next things we'll be getting are a trike thing now that he's walking, and some puzzles. I like the idea of an easel with magnets and things (will save my fridge from the scratches from magnets being slid across it heh).

My sister is right into educational toys, so Zander has gotten some interesting presents from her. One that he loved & played with for months & months after his birthday was an animal thingo. What you do is press a button & one animal pops up, turn a dial & another animal pops up, do you see what I mean LOL? If not I can put a photo of it on Zander's site cos it's hard to explain. Anyway he loooved it & it was great because it took him ages to have the motor skills to do all of the switches.
