Question qu re: sleeping bags for babies

hey guys, i am gunna trial Mason in a sleeping bag instead of wrapping.

I think a lot of his whinging is to do with trying to get his arms to escape the wrap!

So how do I keep a blanket on him if he is in the sleeping bag? I am worried he will pick the blanket up with his hands and put it on his face.

    Any ideas?

Hey Danni, you don't use a blanket and a sleeping bag together, its one or the other.

a lot of milos sleeping fights were to do with not liking his arms wrapped. It took a few days for him to get used to the sleeping bag too.

How many lbs is Mason now?

Danni I would tuck my boys in with a sheet and thin blanket when I was using a sleeping bag. That way they can't pull it over their face.

Sleeping bags are great, I used one for my daughter last winter. I dressed her as normal and treated the sleeping bag as one blanket than added layers of sheets/thin blankets according to the weather. Just tuck the blankets under the cot mattress and you shouldn't have any probs.

    Danni,

I don't use a blanket with a sleeping bag. I have three sleeping bags at any one time of different TOGs and use them accordingly, and Charlie has never been too cold. When the temp is going down to single digits, I will put him in socks, a singlet and a wondersuit, and then into a 2.5TOG sleeping bag, and he stays snuggly warm all night.

He's a big of a wriggler so blankets never worked with him, and he hated being wrapped. He loved the sleeping bags and still uses them today. In fact I just went out yesterday and bought the next size up.

I also use a sleeping bag as one layer of bedding, then cover with a sheet and another blanket...it seems to work for us... I have been using sleeping bags for Riley since he was only a couple of months old, he hated being wrapped and kicked the sheets off too...

    Danni,

I'll go look. I think I might have given my littlest ones away as part of a box of all his old clothes, but I could be wrong. I know I have the next size up though, the 6mths - 18 months but probably a little too big for itty bitty beautiful Mason.

I'll check Charlie's 'old clothes' boxes and will get back to you.

DS has sleeping bag and blankets (tucked in on one side) - if I need pyjamas and a 4-tog duvet, why should he be OK with only 2.5 togs? DS is good with blankets though, I go to bed and see him with his hands holding the blankets but some nights he has brought the blanket up to his face and pushed it away again (he does this in my bed too; I watch him pull a cover over to him then push it away). As he snores and talks in his sleep I don't worry unless he goes silent.

    Ryn,

I know when I was in the UK it got waaaay colder than it is here, so I get you needing a 4 TOG duvet. Mind you, I sleep under a medium weight wool doona with only a singlet and knickers even in the dead of winter here, so Charlie, with his wondersuit and 2.5 TOG sleeping bag is more than warm enough for Perth weather.

Danni, I have got 8 boxes of clothes to go through. This might take a while.

I suppose I was going to get round to it eventually, Danni, Lol! Before this, I was giving them away to a friend of my sister, but she ended up with a 10 punder, so her son now wears the same size as Charlie and I don't have anyone to hand down to.

I know I had some nice Pumpkin Patch and stuff, I'll have a squizz when I go through the boxes and I'll PM you if there's anything you might like.

I use sleeping bags for Chelsea, just Target brand. We use sheets,1 summer and 2 thin winter blankets, and she still gets cold, so now added socks to her wonder suit/singlet/sleeping bag clothing for bed!!

Caro, I use Grobags too. Exxy but I do like them. I had two when C was a newborn, 3 for 6 - 18 months, and I'll probably have 3 for the next size up too, just in different TOGs. I don't go by the recommendations on the back either, just use common sense.

I use them every single day so I can't complain about the cost, I guess, if it's working. It's a sure fire way of getting Charlie to stop charging around and to settle for the night. I put it on him and instantaneously he calms down, knowing bed time's round the corner. Plus I got the 2.5 TOG in the one that takes a five point harness, so if I take DH into work in the morning, I don't even have to get him out of the bag to put him in the carseat!
