    She just will not sleep!

    I am so tired.

DD2 who is almost 16months, has 6 teeth (possibly 2 molars on top of that) coming through. For the last 2 weeks she had not slept for more than 30mins at a time, day or night!

    Our nights this week:
Monday, she through a massive tanty that lasted over an hour, after refusing to go to sleep for 2 hours. She came to bed with us and would not sleep if she was not attached to boob..
Tuesday, did not sleep for more than 15min at a time. Once we took to bed with us, she refused boob, and did not sleep AT ALL. She literally threw a massive tantrum that lasted all night. Even DD1 came into our room in the wee hours, saying that she was woken by her sister!!!
Wednesday, she slept fairly well, waking every hour. In the end she would not sleep unless she was attached.
Tonight, we she been up every half hour so far, and Im not looking forward to tonight!
Almost every night since this has been happening we have been offering her pain relief (alternating between panadol and nurofen), which seems to be working but only for half the time it gives on the bottle. We've used bonjela too, and well she likes the taste of that one but it still doesnt seem to help her much!!

Im tired, I have tried so much to help her and I am running out of ideas. Please hit me with your ideas!!!

I want my happy and well sleeping toddler back, and I know I will once the teeth come through, but...

    Thank you so much!

She is probably very overtired. I feel for you!

Giving her pain relief is the best you can do. Nurofen works better than panadol. She will be quick to get into bad habits..... Unless you are happy to have her sleep on the boob.

My advice would be to start a bed time ritual and don't change it. I know she is teething and it's painful but in the same token kids love attention so even when the teething is over she may continue the tantrums.

When we struggled with dd we used lavender in a vaporizer and put a radio on classical music very low. It seemed to soothe her, particularly when at 12 months we ditched the dummy.

Massage, particularly stroking of the head is quite good before bed and the stroking we did to get her to sleep.

When she wakes, pick one soothing thing and stick to it, ie the stroking so she knows your there and comforting her but also knows it's sleep time. It will be painful for awhile because she is used to being picked up and bought to bed, change won't happen on the first night.

Alternatively, just hope it's teething and it passes. Give it a few more days if you can.

I sound like a harsh parent. I still sleep with my dd even if she has a slight cough. But she does get into the habit of wanting me there all the time so its like a bit of retraining every time she gets better.

Goodluck in whatever you decide. Remember comfort comes in many forms, that includes comfort from pain.

I hope you are having sweet dreams soon

Thanks sm! Yup she has an amber necklace, which works most of the time.
Lasy night wasnt too bad, well she didnt get huge straights of sleep and in the end she was in our bed, as usual.
tonight is pretty good, well so far. Fingerscrossed it stays that way!
I suppose what has been so frustrating has been that what you suggested sm is my normal routine of settling which normally works. tonight I am hoping it is just teething and she will be back to normal in a couple of days, well hopefully back to normal tonight!

Try sm33 instead of bonjela, stronger pain relief. Bonjela is pretty crap really

My dd isn't much younger than yours and she's going through a wake up stage every night at the moment too. We just chuck her in the middle of us and eventually she nods off again. I remember her sister doing the same thing at the same age so I thought it was just a phase they go through?
