Silly Shape-O Question

DH and I were playing with the Shape-O today with DS and naming the shapes... But there are a few we don't know! Apart from the obvious - circle, square, triangle, star, cross, pentagon, oval - what are the other ones called? There are only 10.

Can anyone list them?

There is circle, pie shape (1/4 of a circle), trapizeum, star, oval, diamond, hexagon, cross, triangle, pentagon, square.

I've been telling Daniel it's a "parallelogram". I think I'll leave it at that.

I looked up trapezium and trapezoid and have realised it is just a difference of where you live. US uses trapezoid and others use trapezium

I wonder why in Tassie, they taught trapezoid? It certainly is not part of the US

Well I got that from Wikipedia. Maybe if you look up Tassie in Wikipdeia you will find that it actually is the 51st state of USA. LOL

according to the tupperware replacements list from 1 to 10 (as marked on the shape) they are:
circle
quadrant
triangle
square
pentagon
hexagon
trapezoid
cross
ellipse
star

oval would suffice for "ellipse" I would suspect
trapezium for "trapezoid" depending on what area you are from

Well the shape o I have in front of me has exactly what I listed inc the diamond. Mind you it is the tupperware keyring version

I thought the same of parallelogram. What kid would care? Daniel's lucky if he can say 'poo'.

a parrallelogram is a four sided shape so it is a parallelogram and a trapezium/trapezoid

Sorry to be picky, but parallelograms have two pairs of parallel sides - opposite sides are parallel. The shape in the shape-o is a trapezium because only only pair of sides is parallel

Yep always knew a parallelogram to be a lopsided square.

DS calls it a trapezium and he's just coming up to 3.
Australia is one of the only western countries that teach but dont always use correct geometric and mathematical terms.
When I started Tupperware it was one of the first things I looked up so I'd know the correct name (yeh I know Im a geek lol)

Astrolady - you listed 11 shapes and I know the regular shape-o only comes with 10, so maybe its different, I will check tonight.
