PW, I am not going to criticise your choice. You know what the recommendations are and you have made a decision based on your individual circumstances, with medical advice.
However, I would be irresponsible not to post about the guidelines for others reading this thread who might not be aware and need to make the decision for themselves in the future. The timing of solids introduction has recently been reviewed by a number of organisations and governments around the world. The results are a bit mixed - some, such as the World Health Organisation, have chosen to leave the recommendation at 6 months. Others are recommending between 4 and 6 months. However, all the organisations are clear on one thing - solids should not be given to infants under 4 months of age. There are a variety of reasons for this, of which the higher risk of allergies are just one. Others include long term damage to the Gastro-Intestinal system. I would recommend seeking medical advice before starting solids prior to 4 months, and have personally chosen to wait until 6 months with both my DS's.
