I recall having this problem vaguely because I don't think it lasted too long. Have you tried just letting him stand up for his bath time and ignoring it? Perhaps he'll get bored with the 'no attention' aspect after a while. I'm not sure if you're already having a bath with him, but if not, perhaps you could try that for a while.
