    Tell me about shoes

Now that DD is getting the hang of walking, I should think about getting her some shoes. What do I need to know, if anything? She's been given quite a few pairs but people have mostly chosen what looks good and I want to make sure she's comfortable.

The first shoes I got for Moo we went & had him properly fitted. I wanted him to be comfortable, wearing the right size etc. We bought him Clarks the first time which fitted him for about 3 months. Now he has been walking for about 7 months I just get him little canvas sneakers with velcro.

    Probably doesn't help much sorry!

I think a flexible sole is really important, and no shoes unless they really need them! When trying them on just make sure she is standing up so you can feel where her toe is. I usually go for cheaper shoes at Target/Kmart but ones that are still leather if I can. I went to a podiatrist for DD a few years ago and he said they don't have to have the most expensive shoes but as long as sandals have a front bit that support and cover their toes and a full heel support rather than just a strap is important as they learn to walk and that is it. Good luck I would just look around for soft flexible soles that look cute too Ebay is good for finding bargains as well seeing as they grow out of them so fast as well.

Skeanie's are adorable and recommended by Paediatricians and podiatrists. Check out their website. They are pricey though so the other thing to do it to check out Betts Kids for sale items. They have great shoes that are pretty reasonable on sale

DD has a few cheap ones from Kmart and Target but I try to get the soft soled shoes. When she first started walking, I used ballet flats by Pumpkin Patch and Sprout (Myer) which had little no-slip dots on the soles. They were gorgeous and well priced

When DS started walking I took him to Williams and got him fitted.
We went with a Crayon brand shoe as they are really light and the soles are fantastic!!
He has a really narrow foot so this brand seems to work really well with his feet.

Pay less shoes have great Grosby brand shoes. They have leather soft sole shoes for early walking and great hard soled sandals and shoes.

Agree! You don't want anything rigid, or anything too moulded that is going to try to "shape" their feet. eg: lift the arch or anything like that. I go for ones that are really soft and the sole is really only to keep their feet clean when out and about and protect from *****les or little rocks etc ...Oh and it's great fun trying to get them on the first few goes
