I'll throw a cat amongst the pigeons here, I have a DS and I dont mind if he has toy guns when he is older.

I agree with Rouge - I really think its more about the message you give/teach about guns/war/shooting etc, than the actual props they use.

Mind you I grew up with two brothers, so games with guns, eg cowboys and indians, and star wars (guns,light sabers etc) were common, and neither of them turned out to be cold blooded killers; they are two caring, mild mannered and respectable members of society
