Oskar decided himself that he didn't want it anymore... went cold turkey lol. He was probably a similar age to your DS. Does he say anything about it? It was all in Oskar's routine also, but he just said one night "no bag" and that was that. He took a little while to get used to the sheet/blanket idea as in... being able to pull it up himself, but he must do it or just not kick it all the way off sometimes cos he'll wake with it up covering him. He used to get cold and call out lol... but we just showed him and told him he just needed to reach down.
Just trying to think but I think we also mixed up the routine a bit... so he used to brush teeth, hop in his bag and have books on the lounge... we brushed teeth, into bed under sheet and books in bed. In winter we have an oil heater in his room too just to keep a temp of around 21ish degrees... that way it's not too chilly if he isn't under covers. Summer, he's got the ceiling fan.
my friend got her daughter some of the onesies PJs like a romper suit. i think Kmart have them up to size 8ish. failing that maybe try sew a grobag? it's a pretty basic pattern if you simplify it. HTH
