    Using sunscreen on an infant.

I'm going on a picnic on Friday for my niece's 2nd birthday (weather permitting). This will be my DD's first picnic at 7 weeks old and I'm wondering if sunscreen is safe on the skin of a 7 week old or if there is a special baby sunscreen that's gentle on baby's skin?

There are natural baby ones you can use hun. One is called UV - it is quite thick but there are no yuckies in it and the other is Soleo, some chemists and health food shops like Macro sell the UV one.

The other option is light long-sleeved, long legged, cotton clothes, hat and a shade over her so you don't have to worry too much about direct sun exposure! Good luck!

I like the UV one too. Do you have a good sunshade for the pram?

For a 7 week old I'd be inclined not to use sunscreen and just to keep her fully covered and out of the sun. Most sunscreens are for 6 mo + so rather than risk giving her delicate little skin having a reaction, I'd just cover her from head to toe and take something for shade like an umbrella.

Hope you neice has a great party.

No I don't have a sunshade at all, but the park we will be in does have lots of tall trees so I'm sure I can find some shade.

I was looking for brimmed hats today but my DD is very small and there is nothing that would fit her.

no sunscreen is recommended for use on a children under 6mths, this is due to high chemical content, even in the natural mineral ones, there are concerns about babies skins absorbing more of the active ingredients due to their immaturity and sensitivity.
best bet is lots of shade and cover up!
    have fun!
