I know Sam's a bit older, but he's been on this schedule for a while now.
He wakes around 7am, and his first nap usually starts between 9:30 and 10.
If he's not already awake, we wake him between 12 and 12:30 - otherwise he has a tendency to sleep until 2!
He then goes down around 3:30 for an afternoon sleep, gets up around 5.
BUT - dinner at 6:30 and bed time at 9 works for us as DH doesn't get home from work until after 6 and this lets them have father-son time at some stage in the day.
I figure that Sam can drop to one day sleep when he can have it late enough in the day for it to work for us - until then, he gets two day sleeps which we shorten for him if he doesn't wake up on his own. I know we're transitioning to one sleep, but we're not quite there yet, and I figure his day will need to shorten a bit when we do, it won't be such an issue when I'm at work and DH is at home (next month!) but for now it works for us.
I know it feels mean, but I'd wake her when you need to in order to ensure that her next sleep happens at the right time for her bed time.
I am wondering if my baby is sleeping too much for her age?
She is almost 6 weeks old and normally sleeps 4 hours in between feeds.
As soon as she finishes a feed she likes to fall asleep straight away which means there isnt much awake time (nappy change and that is pretty much it)
Now that she is approaching 6 weeks.....she can sleep between 4 - 6 hours at night, and then spend more time awake during the day.
Initially people all said I had a 'perfect' baby because she was easy to manage but is this too much sleep compared to other babies who prefer to be awake more......
DS usually wakes up around 6am, then goes down for a nap around 9am. He'll usually sleep between 1.5-2.5 hours. Next nap he'll go down between 1.30pm-2.30pm, and again sleeps for another 1.5-2.5 hours. So, he can wake up from his second nap as late as 5pm - which means his bedtime would be about 8pm or later.
I just go with it - I'm already too tired to fight DS on sleep, lol.
Wow Ali you have a very good sleeper there.....she sleeps ALOT!!!! you must get SO much done!!! haha
Heaven, my DD is very similar to your DD (as you know!) in terms of sleep patterns.... she usually wakes around 6-7am and has her first sleep of the day around 930am/10am lasting about 45mins-1hr usually no more than that.... then is awake from about 1030/11am until about 1:30pm/2pm when she has her 1.5hr sleep of the day usually this one is a bit longer than her first nap and then that's it for the day..... if she's really tired she will fall asleep around 5pm in the evening which i don't like as it is then harder to get her to sleep in the evening!
DD refuses to sleep earlier than 8pm most nights anyway since about 8mths old and sometimes wont sleep until 9pm even!!!
We have learnt to just go with it..... it's easier that way Every day is different. Depends what we are doing that day too. I figure my DD just doesn't need as much sleep as some other babies do and is more interested in learning and playing than sleeping!
Hi Heaven. DD was the same at that age, but unfortunately we're *still* transitioning to one sleep.
I try and only let her have an arvo sleep every second day, and that seems to help. Otherwise, I wake her after 20mins in the arvo sleep. She always has a good 2 hours in the morn, so I figure the arvo one is just a refuel for dinner etc.
I have been letting her do whatever while we were away, but the 9pm bedtimes are too hard when its just me and her.
