IKEA, the Antilop chair!!!! The EASIEST in the world to clean, easy to store away, it does the job and it's cheap cheap cheap! Seriously, they are fantastic, and I know I'm not the only one on here who thinks so
We bought another chair and while we use it, it is a %^(&% to keep clean. We bought the IKEA chair to use at the grandparents and wished I'd got another one for home.
Easy to clean (no fiddly crevasses)...small footprint (ie doesn't have a huge base that you will always be tripping over)...good safety features (good extendable harness, stable enough not to tip over if toddler is climbing in, not fiddly bits where fingers can get caught)...size and shape of tray (I looked for one with maximum flat area on the tray - helps when they're a bit older and happy to sit up there doing pictures/playdough, etc). I also wanted one that I could store easily - mine folds flat - it's handy to keep in the shed for when guests with little kiddies come to stay.
I'm with everyone on the "easy to clean" importance.
We've also got a pain-in-the-butt to clean chair and it drives me balmy. It may look pretty, but my goodness it's ridiculous how many areas a wriggling 12 month old can smoosh food into
You can take the tray off with one hand - very important!
You can clean the straps easily - how hard is it to get them off to wash?
I like the ones that adjust up and down, so you can take the tray off and adjust to the height of your dining table so the child can sit with you.
Pity we don't have IKEA here in Hobart from the sounds of it!!
We bought a cheap Infa Seville Hi - Lo one from Kmart which is great, easy to clean, is adjustable so that we can fit it under our table as our DS is 23mths old, it also has a lay back feature which was great in early days when we used it to give bottles in too. But the one regret I have is that it doesn't have the moulded plastic bit that goes between the childs legs, only the 5 point harness/straps. As our son has gotten older, he has learnt to remove the straps and then wriggles so much he ends up climbing out. The slightly more expensive model had the moulded bit which means less worry about them unstrapping themselves and escaping!!
Oooh, I'm interested to know, why is it important to be able to take the tray off with one hand??? I'm not being smart, I really want to know. Given that I've only rarely taken the tray off ours, I'm struggling to find a reason......

Oh - and we're Ikea fans here too! got the Antilop one (in red!) but has a white tray. Soooo easy to clean, but doesn't fold up. It does however allow the legs to come on & off easily so you can put it in the car and take it to things!
And while you're getting the high chair, suss out all the other cool Ikea stuff... we use their bowls for DS and their toys are awesome. The lighthouse (wooden disks on a pole) is one of his favourites.. but we've lost one blue ring gawd, I'd like to know where that went!
I am also a fan of the ikea antilop. The only thing is that they can't really use it until they can sit by themselves because they don't recline like some highchairs. DD was 8 months before she could sit. They are easy to clean and seem really comfy. DD will sit in hers for ages. Also cheap.
We also have one of those booster seats that strap onto a normal chair. It lives in the car and we use it at cafes, restaurants, friends houses etc. DD loves it and can sit right at the table with us and be sociable. I have seen one of these at toys r us that reclines, so one of those and an Ikea one could be a great combination.
