Red face What does your bub do when he/she wakes at night?

Hi all! Yet another sleep related question from me... I'm just wondering...what does your bub do when he/she wakes at night?? Does he/she cry? or scream?

Our DS screams out as if he's in pain... He has reflux (still) and is on Losec for it but recently he had antibiotics which played havoc with his tummy.. When he wakes at night it is almost always full on screaming as if he's in pain and he archs his back or pulls up his legs... I'm wondering if this is a 'normal' reaction when a bub wakes or if they usually just cry (like they want company or food or a new nappy etc)???

I've never heard a baby screaming like our DS does but then I've never spent nights with another baby either so I'm lost...

    Thanks in advance...

A few weeks ago we had visitors so I had to sleep in with DD2. I now know that for about 1 HOUR before she starts to cry she blows raspberries and bangs her dummy against the side of the cot! I know this as she did it EVERY morning at around 1:30 LOL!!! Not funny at the time though!

Claire usually starts by babbling to herself or grunting, then if no one responds she will scream really loud!

DD usually startles awake. Then she stands up and cries. I have another who would sometimes scream, but usually only when he was sick.

Sherie, when you go into him, how does he act? Is it like he's still asleep? Are you able to comfort him or does he just have to work through it for a minute?

When we go into his room he is always awake screaming...it doesn't happen every time or even every night but it is fairly regular. For example, last night was 9:15 pm Bed, 10:40 pm Wake but Self Settled, 12:10 am Wake but SS, 12:30 am Wake 5 minutes to settle, 4:30-4:45 Wake crying, 4:55 am - 6:20 am Wake screaming in pain/burb/drink/wind/burb then sleep.

He is inconsolable most of that screaming time, he pulls his legs up and archs his back and head. Nothing comforts him (as he was before he got onto the reflux medicine).

I'm not sure why although for the past few weeks (since the gastro) he hasn't swollowed much of his reflux medicine so it could just be that... But we've also managed to get him to take some formula in the last few weeks too (which he wouldn't do before) so maybe it's that... We're not giving any formula today to see if that makes a difference...

If he's awake, I'd say he might be in pain. The reason I asked is that it may have been night terrors, but if he's awake it's not that.

Good idea on eliminating things. Do you have his cot level or on a bit of a slope? It can help having a reflux bub with their feet lower than their head, I think it's gravity aiding with keeping everything down.

My bub is usually found sitting up in her cot and crying moderately loudly. She doesn't seem distressed, only in need of a cuddle, backrub and feed....maybe a nappy change and an extra blanket if it gets a bit colder in the early morning.

Riley has had night terrors before, about 4 months ago, it was horrible... This is definitetly not the same thing... But guess what? Last night, we left the night light on (something we've never done before) and he hardly woke up (or we hardly heard him if he did)!!! Wow!!! Do other bubs sleep with a night light on all night?

Zander had his main light on but dimmed right down to almost nothing for a very very long time. Now at almost 2.5 he has a little clock radio that has a blue night light on that turned on all night.

Oh my gawd, either having the light on at night is working or else now that we've finally got him to keep his reflux medicine down again that's doing the job... Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

When Jesse wakes he just kinda whinges.. doesnt really cry. Usually he's just looking for his dummy. So i just go in, give it to him and he's out again.

    Glad the night light helped.

I think Riley's problem must have been the reflux medication because he doesn't scream like he was and he's even happier during the day...we've managed to get him to keep it down for a bit now and it seems to have made things better... Although I think we'll leave the night light on too just in case...hehe...

    Fantastic news, Sherie.
Certainly I'd be worried if Natalie was screaming and arching her back etc. When she wakes at night she grizzles and it develops into more of a cry if she doesn't get my attention.
Hopefully the good nights continue for you!
