    what an interesting thread

    Today DS has had:

    yoghurt & muesli for brekkie
a snack pack thingie of peaches & pears
    2 cheese slices
    1/3 vegemite sandwich
small handful of sultanas & cranberries
1/4 cup of chopped up tomato, cucumber & capsicum (I keep pinching myself about this)
    home made hamburger

and water to drink whenever. Oh, & 53000 BF's, it's been one of those days, I'm very glad he's in bed so that I get a break haha.

    Today DD had:

a small bowl of sultana bran
1/2 piece of toast with Jam
a huge amount of watermelon (her fave fruit)
    1/4 of an apple
    Cheese and biscuits
Quiche Lorraine with a cherry tomato and red onion salad
    Grapes
    Tuna Mornay with pasta
    Milk

She only has water to drink throughout the day (not because we don't offer juice, she just won't drink anything else).

Each day varies, some days she eats more, some days she eats less. She seems to have a mind of her own these days about food.

It's interesting to see how differently they all eat.
    DD has had:
    * handful of organic cornflakes with milk
    * 1/2 piece wholemeal toast with cheese spread
    * avocado sushi roll
    * 2 tiny teddies
    * one date

She is asleep now, and has just had her 18m shots so I'm not sure how she'll go tonight, but normally it would be something like:

    * 4 mini rice crackers with hommus
    * about a cup of beef/vege stew with cous cous
    * couple of tablespoons of yoghurt
    * couple of tablespoons grated cheese

She only drinks water and milk.

Wow Jan, I wish Autie would eat tomato, capsicum and cucumber - how good is that?!

Thought you all might find this interesting. Not sure where it is from, a friend emailed it to me

Four servings of milk? Two servings of vegetables? Relax. When experts talk about toddler servings, they're talking about very small amounts. Here, in real-life terms, is what a typical tot needs a day:

    MILK: 4 SERVINGS
A serving equals 1/2 cup of whole milk or 1/2 cup of full-fat yogurt or 1 1/2 ounces of cheese (approximately 1 inch square)

    GRAINS: 6 SERVINGS
A serving equals 1/2 slice of bread or 1/4 cup cereal or 1/4 cup rice or paste or 3 crackers (approximately Saltine size)

    FRUITS: 2 SERVINGS
A serving equals 1/4 fresh fruit, sliced or cubed, or 2 tablespoons pureed or 3 ounces of juice

    VEGETABLES: 2 SERVINGS
A serving equals 1 to 2 tablespoons of well-cooked or pureed vegetables

    PROTEIN: 2 SERVINGS
A serving equals 1 egg (cooked however your child will eat it) or 1 to 2 tablespoons of meat, fish or poultry or 1 to 2 tablespoons of legumes, including tofu and beans.

Thought I would come in with another day's!

1/2 slice of toast with vegemite
a few teaspoons of weetbix & muesli
    1/2 orange
1 tiny slice of kiwi fruit
    two bites of an apple
    6 rice crackers
    some sultanas
    a banana
    a few teaspoons of yoghurt

    haven't had lunch yet.

Gee, he's eating more than I thought he was. Its good to actually write it down.

This thread is depressing me. I think DS' diet is even worse than I thought. HOW do I get him to eat more fruit and veg?? I've tried cutting back his milk intake to encourage his appetite but that's a bit hit and miss. I have him on a daily multivitamin at the moment because I'm so bothered by it. It's strawberry flavoured and he thinks it is a huge treat.

    Today:

    2 tubs yoghurt
1 piece multigrain toast with butter (he is currently obsessed with "butter toast" and "butter sandwiches"
    1 bite of raw carrot
    2 cups milk
    1 cup orange juice

I will attempt to get him to have some home made chicken strips for dinner tonight.

Hun - fruit is about the only thing I can successfully get him to eat. He won't eat meat, in his 2 year life span, he's probably had one bite of meat - then spits it out. He won't eat eggs. He won't eat anything with tomato based sauce, tomato anything, no pasta.

He'll eat my fried rice - occassionally. So don't get depressed by this thread. He's only JUST started eating more - coincidentally once I took him off cows milk and swapped it with oats milk. NOW he eats.

    Nutrigrain
    Strawberry Yoghurt
    Milkies Bar
    Grapes
    Watermelon
    Apple
    Wiggles Biscuits
    Milk
PB&J sandwich (normally ham & cheese... but today he wanted PB&J)
    About 4 slices of cheese
    More Grapes
    LOTS of water.

My son eats his body weight daily in food I swear (this isn't even afternoon tea and dinner).

But apart from a few biscuits/bars/homebaked goods he's pretty good on the snacks so I can't complain.

    Yesterday:
    Nutrigrain
    Toast
    Yoghurt
    Cheese (dunno how many slices)
    Watermelon
    Grapes
    Cheese crackers
2 Salmon & Avocado sushi rolls (yes thats practically an adult portion )
    more fruit in the afternoon
    Another yoghurt
Mashed Potato, Chicken, Peas & Corn
Lots of water (he has an obsession with cold water atm)

Hmmm.. this confirms my suspicions that DS is not a big eater. So far today he has had

    1 and a half Weetbix
    Half a piece of toast

    2 bites of a sandwich

That's it.. He rejected baked beans and also a piece of apple bun

He is asleep now but I think when he wakes up he'll have a tub of yoghurt and some fruit. He doesn't sit still long enough to eat much!

Wow, all your toddys sound like great eaters.

mrscricket, my son eats like yours by the sounds of it. He loves his milk and only gets 2 small bottles a day, but otherwise he picks at food unless it's chocolate or other junk. Typical day he would eat:

1 weetbix with honey and milk or a small bowl of nutrigrain (rarely finishes either)
    Half a dozen rice crackers/tiny teddies/savoury biscuits
    Half a banana

Will lick the inside of a sandwich and maybe take 3 bites of bread, or chews it up and spits it out for fun (honey, jam, or vegemite)

Maybe the other half the banana and whatever they serve at daycare (and never all, just some)

Will pick at dinner, has never once finished it all...prefers pasta, peas, cheese.

Starting to worry Oh he drinks ALOT of water also.

    Thanks Arimeh!

FWIW when my DS was about 12 months he would NOT eat any meat...so I tried him with fish fingers - with tartare sauce for dipping. Loved 'em - and the drought was broken. I then made him homemade chicken strips and they went down well too. I marinate the chicken in milk and honey and then crumb them with breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese. I tried to make them look as much as like fish fingers as I could LOL.

I have aslo made him little rissoles but they have not been a regular success like the fish fingers and chicken strips - he usually turns his nose up at them.

Re the tomato sauce rejection - I have a baby bolognese recipe that divides up into about 6-8 serves and it only has a couple of tablespoons of tomato paste, which is optional. It's basically mince and veggies cooked in chicken stock, actually very nice, if you want me to post the recipe I will.

I do have a great macaroni and cheese recipe - he scoffs that. I put spinach in the homemade cheese sauce...and when he was younger I used to cook up a chicken breast, whiz it up in the food processor until it was the consistency of breadcrumbs and then mix a tablespoon of my "chicken breadcrumbs" in with the cheese sauce. I am thinking I might have to start that again. And maybe sneak some other veg into it.

    great thread..
Aiden has just had his last canine tooth break thru, so, is not eating much atm, yesterday, from the time he woke (8.30am) till about 3pm, all he ate was 1/2 banana & 1/4 peice of toast. I went out and brought some yoghurt and his favorite vege nuggets & chicken nuggets so that at least he would eat something 1/2 decent for tea. He has 3 bottles a day, and he still generally will always have those.

Today so far.. no bottle, wasnt really interested this morning..

    3/4 peice of toast
    1 banana
1 pineapple, cheese & bacon roll for bakery section of woolies
    1/3 chicken jumbo from lennards

So, he is feeling abit better today.
