It is common for babies to have a mild temperature and be grizzly for 24-48 hours after an immunisation. Offering more frequent breast feeds is one good form of pain relief and comforting, and you can also give baby paracetamol.
Not sure about vomiting or diahrroea - they are not typical in my experience.
DD1 was fine for first round of vaccinations but got a mild temp and became a grizzly guts for second lot. she cried (of course) for a little bit but i just gave her a cuddle and a breastfeed and she was ok.
i was breastfeeding DD2 while they did the heel ***** test and she made a little whimper and kept sucking so i am wondering if will be able to breastfeed her while they give her the 2 month needles.
some people recommend giving panadol 30mins before vaccinations, some say wait til they develop symptoms afterwards. but i would have some in the house just in case.
dee i breastfed M while she had the needles.
as for reactions, she was a little sleepier but nothing more than that its horrible the first time, i cried with her
Daniel had nothing, not any sort of reaction at all.
I know one thing he'll never get - whooping cough, Hep B etc....... and that's the best reaction I could hope for ever!!
Giving little bubs an injection is hard, but the diseases you are protecting them against are lethal and debilitating. If you hadn't guessed - I am a true vaccination advocate!
But seriously, my son has had not one reaction from any of his injections and he's had the full course - except the four year old one.
Ashtons first needles at 2 months went without a hitch. The 4 and 6 month ones he got a temp for 72 hours (4 months) and 24 hours (6 months) and was whingy but otherwise nothing else. He wasn't off his booby, just gave him a little baby dymadon every 4 hours until his temp went.
DD had her 8wk vaccs on Friday. She was ok with the jabs(I was more distressed than she) but since then has been really unsettled and grizzly. She had a slight temp Friday arvo/evening and and Sat, but that has passed now. She also wanted to feed a lot more and seemed generally unhappy.
Sat night the Roto Virus came out the other end, that was unpleasant. She's also been a bit more vomitty - but only little bits, nothing major.
We found the 2 month vaccs made DS sleep! He came home from having them and slept for 4 hours, which was a HUGE shock for DH and I lol. Apart from that we didn't have any other major reactions.
If you don't have any baby panadol, maybe get some just to keep on hand incase. Better to have it and not need it, than to not have it and need it hey
Nothing here.. maybe a good sleep? But that could ahve been from being out and waiting at the drs etc anyway.
DS actually slept through his 2month needles. Pretty funny. They couldn't believe it... neither could I LOL. I found the early ones, like 2 & 4 months were the easiest.. both bubs hardly whimpered.. but as they get older and twig as to what's going on... that's when they get upset about these big mean nurses coming at them with needles haha.
You'll be fine, it's all very quick. And yeah.. just have some panadol handy in case you feel he needs it.
