So.. I have a beautiful 6 month baby girl who means the world to me. My soon to be husband and I want to have 3-4 children and we do not want them to far apart. To far for me is 5 years because when I grew my siblings were 5 years apart and I was stuck in the middle. Big age gap! On the other hand I dont want to have another one to early because I want to get to experience being mommy and daddy's little girl. We are getting married in March and I will be done with school in November. I am so confused about when to get pregnant again????
We decided that 2 years is a good age gap and therefore we've just started TTC#2 as we will need to be pregnant when DS is 15 months for the 2 year age gap. I think that we've had enough time now to enjoy him and appreciate him by hi\mself as this was a big priority for me!
I think you will find the consensus in here is that there is no 'perfect' age gap, it all comes down to what you are comfortable with. For me I had an 18 month age gap between DD & DS which was hard work, I love my kids and I probably wouldn't take back the age gap between them, but it really was tough- and I am lucky enough to have a village of helpers. We are wanting to have a 3rd, but this time we are leaving a bigger gap, by the time I get pg and have the baby there will probably be just over 3 years between bub and DS and 4 1/2 between bub and DD.
There is no magic formula and winning age gap it is just whatever works for you. There will be pro's and con's for each- close is 2 in nappies, juggling day sleeps etc. Further apart you have school or after school activities to deal with.
Anyway I haven't been much help really, I prescribe to the go with the flow theory, when it is right you and your DP will know.
There is no perfect gap for everyone.
For us, 2 years is what we have between each of our boys, and it works really well for us.
Goodluck in deciding what gap will suit you.
I read somewhere that it takes around 18 months for your body to fully recover from the previous pregnancy/birth, but I really think that whenever you are ready it will be the right time! All the best!
for DH and I we'll have 16(ish) months between our bubs. on my part i want to have babies close together so i can 'get my body back' as apposed to getting to a point im happy with (IE stretch marks, sleepless nights ect) and then have to go though it all again. for my DH its age, he's 10 years older then i am and his 'cut off' for babies is 35 (so i'd be 25) so if we want three kids (if this bub is a girl we'll stop there) we kind of need the close age gap. that and DH and I wanted our kids to be close (3yrs between him and his brother and 2.3 between my sister and i) because we feel that they'll have a better bond (in theory ) in the long run.
