Did your GP ask what you were feeding him?? Did he discuss your form of infant nourishment?? Only because he / she may not automatically assume BF and think FF and there are some babies who are overfed. There is also a parenting book that suggests top ups after feeding. Some people (relatives of mine ) started their babies on solids at 2 months / 10 weeks. There are a number of potential reasons for that statement and without further clarification from the GP they do sound inappropriate. With further information they may have had a valid point they were trying to convey (not very well!!) which may be relevant for some parents.

If you really like your doctor otherwise then use this relationship to adequately discuss what they mean by the comment so there can be no misunderstanding or blanket comment that doesn't apply to you / your situation. His weight is not an issue if he is consistent on centiles. Someone has to be at the top and someone has to be at the bottom (we just happen to be at the bottom and get comments for the opposite reason ) and when he starts to move more they all even out. In my MG there were a wide range of sizes but by about 7 months they were all around the same size and now at 3 they are all average sized little people - regardless of their beginning.

My DS1 wasn't overly big born (7lb 10oz) but once he started feeding (bfing) he started to become a bit of a big boy. I would get the comments from the strangers in the street like, 'How old is he?' I'd tell them then i'd get "Oh he's a big boy isn't he!?'. To me he wasn't. Yes he gained weight beautifuly and i'm just proud of us for that, of me for producing the milk, of him for drinking it so well and of my milk for being so good. I too was told by my MCHN that you can't overfeed a breastfed baby so i never attempted to change anything.

It all evened out, he's now almost 4 and just looks like a healthy little boy, not too big not too small

If you're not concerned don't change a thing

I was going to say something along the lines of what Michelle said

My DS had HUUUUUGE weight gains in his first few months and I had various MW's/ health nurses comment and all said "if you were FF I'd be telling you to reduce his feeds, but seeing as he is BF, its no problem"

    Yay!! for super boobies!

My friend's little boy put on weight really fast and was really chubby with rolls (which are soooo adorable) and he was fully BF also.... just fab milk I reckon. On the flipside, at least you don't have doubts in your mind about if you're producing enough etc etc etc. I love rolls on babies, they are just way too cute. Most bubs will lose it and slow down and slim down as they get older... my friend's little boy is almost 4 now and slimmed heaps! He's tall but so is his dad. His dad is also very solidly built so there were some genetics. I say he's all perfect your little man
