I got one when DS was 6m old; I still use it at my Mum's house. Because she has a big house! I don't use it at home, we can hear DS when he's supposed to be asleep. His cot is against the wall our bedhead is against so he wakes us up easily.
I did use it at home when DS was about 10-15m old; I was in a different room and it gave me peace of mind. Then DS slept through for a bit, so we stopped using it. Then when he stopped sleeping well we never bothered starting it again as we didn't need it.
Well I've just realised that I haven't used ours for over a week. Brock is 5 1/2 months old. It wasn't a decision I made, but we went on a little holiday and didn't take it with us as he slept in our room and I haven't had it on since we got back.
I used to get woken by every little noise - like when he woke and then resettled. Now I only hear him if he really wakes up & can't settle himself. It's great. Our house is on the small side so we can hear him easily without it. Truth be told I wasn't going to have a monitor but we were given it so I felt obligated to use it.
i'm still using my movement monitor and sound, ds is almost 1 and sleeps in the room right next to ours. My husband always says to me I will be using it with ds until the day he moves out of home lol! (i'm the queen of paranoid when it comes to ds)
Have just bought a monitor for this 2nd bub and she is almost 7 months. This new house we cannot always hear her when she wakes. The house is not large, just quite sound proof and I have found her crying when I checked on her too many times for my liking. Also I need to do a lot outside now and that is best done when she naps. So as not to be going inside every 5 minutes to see if she is ok, I can now stay outside. We do not need it once we are in bed though as she is in our room.
To be honest I have never been fond of monitors, but with this house we do need one.
