Cool when do you start giving babies water

Hey wyhen do you start giving babies water? and how much?

Izzy was a lil consitpated after her needles yesterday, so i was adviced to give her some warm boiled water...

should this be a once off, or is water ment to be part of her every day routine?

    I'm breastfeeding btw.

breast feeding babies don't need water until they are 6mths old. My son is currently 7.5mths and still never had water with b/feeding.

How often she is doing poo, if you say she is constipated as my son was only doing it once a week around that age which is normal.

Hi Cass....I thought water was not something you have to regularly give to babies. Breastfed babies I thought also do not get constipated much, i have heard that they can go for a week or more without a bowel movement??? Has anyone else heard this.. I have also heard if your baby is constipated that putting a little brown sugar in some boiled water helps? Or is this a myth?

    Hey,
She goes poo poo every morning... Something noice for mum to wake up to But this morning there was only a little smudge on nappy, and she's been grumpy for the day, grunting and groaning, so i put two and two together...

She drank 60mls of water an did big poo's... So we got the constipation worked out

Yuppers i've heard the brown suger too... But usually the water has enough fiber to get things going for babies...

When DD didnt do a poo for 10days i was worried until the ABA assured me that breastfed babies rarely get constipated. Breast milk is incredibly efficient so not a lot waste is produced. Apparently they can go 25 days without a poo. Ella had nappy explosion on day 14

But yeah i heard warm water helps constipation. She has water after every solid meal now at 6.5mo.

Jovie is a breastfed bub but did get constipated. In saying that it would be around 14 days before she would poo, and when she did it was hard nuggets. She has food intolerances though so it sort of goes hand & hand.

When she was younger I would offer her around 20mls of water to try to help push it out. Brown sugar is supposed to help the guts move which is why it helps with constipation.

I agree with the others, for a b/f baby I'd judge constipation by what it looks like more than how often, up to 13 days in between is not unheard of..

Taia was the same the day after her injections - it took a couple of days for her to come right - and boy we went through the nappies when the pipes were back in full working order!

My little girl only goes once a week - perfectly normal for a fully breast fed baby! The thing about breast milk is that it is the perfect food for babies so there is very little waste for them to expel in their poos. So don't worry if your littl eone isn't pooing and you are still just b/fing her - its normal!!
