and have decided to let my DD's choose if they wont them done...im a bit like Hollye on this one.

While it looks cute....i would rather my kids decide if they want piercings in their body!
Not a bad way to approach it IMO. It can reinforce and teach your child that she has right to choose how she wants to decorate her body if at all. Also if she knows it will hurt, may get infected but still wants to do it, then she has made that choice with facts provided.

In my family of 3 girls, my middle sister chose to have it done at 11, I chose at 16 and my baby sister chose to never have her ears pierced.

My nanna got my ears pierced for my second birthday pressie, I never had a prob with them.

My mum got my daughters ears pierced for her first birthday & I've never had an infection, just a couple of lost earings along the way where the butterfly came off, she never ripped earings out though. I changed her to sleepers after she lost the last earing & havent lost one since.

She's now at the age when she likes to change them when we're going out or special occasion etc.

I think they look cute on little girls But it is personal choice, some people have very strong opinions about this topic though, just so you're aware.

I remember that my mum told me that when I was 10 I could choose to have them done if I wished for my birthday, as a 'big-girl' present. I loved it! In my opinion it should be the child's choice. Good luck making your decision.

my parents got my first lot done when i was 11 months (or 13 months - can't say for sure - i got glasses on one, earrings on the other!). never a drama with them

when i was 13, i got a second set done, and another at the top of one ear at 21.

my intention is to get any daughters ears pierced as early as possible. My mum just got my nieces ears pierced for her eighth birthday - she didn't get infections, but from a week in, she was asking when she could wear different "pretty" earrings. she's now had them less than six weeks, and her parents caved, and got different earrings in for her just to stop her asking

i think you either need to do them very early, or wait until they're significantly older so that they're responsible but understand about waiting for a time before changing them so that they heal/avoid infection properly...

I don't agree with doing them till they are old enough to ask/want & understand.

But Another thing, I find studs uncomfortable when sleeping, they dig in. Would it not be uncomfortable for bubs?

My parents didn't get my ears pierced until I was old enough to ask myself and understand the pain. I was 5 and a half by the time they got sick of me asking and let me do it. I'll probably wait until my DD is old enough to ask and understand as well.

I got both my daughters done about 5 years old, I think. Both did end up getting minor infections, as no matter how much you clean them at that age all they want to do is play with them.

My SIL had her baby girl's ears pierced at 6 months, she doesn't touch them at all and they have not had any problems.

It is totally your decision, there are pros and cons for both younger and older, and you need to weigh them up and make the decision thta is right for you and your baby girl.

I personally would never do anything like that to my baby, but thats me.

I just dont see the point if they dont even know they are there anyway?? I never even considered it, so I dont really know the reasons why mums do it at all?

My cousin had her DD done very young, and to be very honest, it looks trashy..... Sorry... (just the one experience I've had of baby peircings)

My daughter begged for ages, and her dad got them for her 7th birthday. It was special, and her choice.

But that was my choice... Your DD, your choice mum!!!
