Will she really grow out of rocking to sleep?

People keep telling me not to worry and that I won't be rocking DD to sleep forever, she will grow out of it.

But HOW? I really don't see how she will unless I somehow teach her (nightmare!).

So if your bub really did just grow out of rocking to sleep please share with me and give me some hope, LOL.

my ds1 was rocked, breastfed and basically comforted to sleep every single time. i never 'taught' him to sleep.
now...at 21months....he goes and gets in bed, has a kiss and goes to sleep.
at night he has a story and a cuddle, then goes to sleep.
they do change hun, i promise! sometimes it just takes a while LOL

Unfortunately no she wont grow ou of it. You'll be rocking her when she's 21 ! ..... Just kidding Ok she'll slowly grow out of it, but she will grow out of it, just like dummies and bottles or breastfeeding. Chin up

Yup I totally agree. Happened with both my kids

Can't remember when it happened with DS though - but DD doesn't need to be rocked to sleep anymore, and hasn't for ... maybe a month ? She's 1 today. So its not tooooo much longer for you

Now we are onto the put in cot and stroke back/pat bottom to get off to sleep. DS only needs us to sit there with him and he falls asleep at night.

oh hun.. i know how u feel. I felt exactly the same. DD was rocked till just after 6 months old. I thought it was never going to end. But it did. I have NOOOOO hope what so ever of rocking her to sleep now. (trust me, ive tried lol) they do grow up very quickly

So yes.. i can promise u, she WILL grow out of it.

I dont rock Z but I do cuddle him to 90% sleep - and I love it. It takes him 5 - 10 mins max to fall asleep now too, which I think is nothing at all!!!

With my first I did the whole put down so he can self settle from a young age etc - but I was by myself (DH in Iraq), we had just moved to Canberra with my first baby away from everyone, so I just listened and tried to do everything my MCHN said. Luckily DS coped with it all really well.

Don't wish it away just yet hun, it really does go so fast.

I got to the point where rocking to sleep just wasn't working anymore, as DS is just far too aware and would keep pushing away to look at everything. Now I feed to sleep, which (mostly) works.

Great to hear that bubs do grow out of it though . You're doing a great job SJ!

That's what I needed to hear. She will grow out of it on her own. Well she better!! LOL. And not too much longer?? Pretty please.

I enjoyed rocking her to sleep when she was a bit littler but now she is just getting way too heavy and I can't keep it up!! Plus, she wakes up too easily, and hardly ever lets me put her down!! It's like she wants me to keep rocking her the whole time she's asleep!!

Yep, can't even get her to look sleepy, LOL.
I usually just bounce on the fitball with her, easier on the arms and back.

heaven, i have a rocking chair and i just sit back at night and watch tv while i rock ds2 to sleep. have you tried a rocking chair?
i find it really relaxing and he doesn't feel too heavy in it.

Aww hun it will happen Just cherish her bieng so small and actually lying in your arms for long periods!

I've rocked all my bubbas to sleep, and with DD3 did it until she was about 16 months. She pretty much showed me she was ready by trying to get out of my arms and into the cot. When she did self settle, I'd always want to pick her up and give her a cuddle.

Heaven Hun I'd love to say my DS grew out of it but he didn't... he just grew so big that and I couldn't rock him to sleep any longer LOL although I would have. LOL. Like some others have said DS was BF and "held" until he went to sleep every night and unfortunately he only got worse, Once h was in his cot he had to be "patted to sleep" we ended up getting professional help BUT...Now he sleeps the night through 6.30pm to 7am in a single in his own room. Every child is different and while you might have some bumpy times as we did you will get there!

The thing is, she's not so small anymore, my arms are dead!! LOL. So then I end up using the HAB for her sleeps and I don't want to have to bloody carry her around for the rest of her life!! LOL.

Rainforest- I was just telling DH yesterday we should look at rocking chairs!! But they're pretty expensive hey, and then what if it doesn't work, lol. She needs pretty vigorous bouncing, haha, no idea how you can go to sleep like that.

It's not even so much the rocking that's bothering me coz it only takes her 5 mins or so to get to sleep but then I can't put her down or she wakes up and every time she stirs I have to rock her again or she wakes up crying

Have u thought about going to a sleep school? I went.. it was great. It had nothing to do with CC and now DD is a self settler, with no tears (95% of the time).
