Thanks yeddi, yep first appointment is just me then several with ds. They said between 3 and 6 depending on how they go. Then they'll do the report that can take a while.
We have the referral and a mental health plan but it's still going to cost a bomb after Medicare and then $200 for the report. Couldn't believe you don't get more if a rebate for thus type of thing.
I don't know if we could afford to keep going if he's diagnosed.
Hi, my DD is quite sensitive to things too - shy around other people even people she knows well, clings to me, sacred of sudden, loud noises, has strong reactions to things, notices things others don't, etc etc. And someone I know recommended I read "The Highly Sensitive Child" by Elaine Aron, which I haven't finished reading yet as I don't get much time to read. But so far it has been so helpful for me.
The blurb on the back of the book says:
"Is your child... Sensitive to almost everything - scratchy clothes, strong tastes, loud noises, crowded places, a change in routine? A vivid dreamer, distressed by scary films or fearful in new situations? Prone to hurt feelings, upset by criticism and eager to do things just right? Frequently labelled as shy, introverted, fussy or faddy? If so, your child may be one of the 15 to 20 per cent of children who are born highly sensitive. Often gifted, Highly Sensitive Children are intuitive and reflective but easily overwhelmed. These qualities can make for bright, conscientious and creative children, but may also result in shyness, fussiness or acting out."
Anyway, it might be worth a read? You might be able to find it at your local library?
