Bed safety rails- anyone have one??

I'm trying to get one second hand as I know they are not used for a long time, so I'm wondering does anyone know of any sites I could look at- I've tried Gumtree and Ebay but nothing there. OR stores as well that have second hand stuff?? I'm near the Gold Coast.

Lastly if you have one that you're no longer using that would be great too...

    Not very patient are ya?

I never bothered with one. Just put pillows on the floor for JIC and with 3 kids so far haven't had one fall out of bed!

I never had one either. I didn't even bother with pillows. It's not that far to fall - both mine have fallen further during the day from couches or places they've climbed.

Let's just say that they only fall out once... each...

Really do you guys think he would be ok at his age, I know I'm starting the transition early that's why I wanted one.

We are making him a fire engine bed which has edges anyway, but that is still about 6 weeks away so I wanted to do a bit a slow transition thing by taking the side rail off the cot...

If the fire engine bed is bigger and has edges I wouldn't worry about a transition period. It sounds like bub won't fall out of the new bed (or is unlikely to), but might fall out of the cot because he's used to having sides.

Having said that, as the others have said, a fall out of bed is not really going to hurt them, especially if you have a pillow or two around to break their fall. I remember when mine moved to his big bed I couldn't keep him in bed anyway, he would be out and in and out and in and sometimes I'd pop my head in and find him asleep on the floor anyway. It's good you're doing this in the warmer weather, where it doesn't really matter if his blankets don't make it to the floor with him!

We just put the cot mattress on the floor next to the bed to soften any falls. DD fell twice, DS not once.

how about rolling up a towel/blanket and popping it under the fitted sheet to act as a bumper, we did this as a transition when we took the rails off DD's bed, worked well and its free

Olive- Fabulous idea! I am really looking forward to not having to lean into the cot to change the sheets too!

So DS and I took the rail off, and put a rolled up towel under the sheet at the edge like you suggested Olive.

DS was so cute, the first thnig he did was climb up and get teddy and his pillow and he walked them around the whole house, as if to say "see teddy this is what I've been telling you about".

I'm a bit nervous that when I put him into bed tonight he will just get up and play in his room. Any suggestions? I was thinking maybe I should take some of the toys out till he's used to it??

hi, you can always use the back of a chair, like your dining room chair, just sit it beside the bed with the back against the bed... thats what we do if we go away anywhere, just acts as a bit of protection... you could even use two if he is a big mover and slides down the bed etc.

ps i let our dd play in her room if she isn't ready to sleep.... my rule has always been no coming out of the room, but if you want to read or play with toys that is fine with me.... particularly reading in bed is a really good habit to get them into, so i encourage her to take a few books with her.... lets face it they are not always going to be ready to close their eyes when it suits us (when we put them to bed), so if you can set the rules that they are allowed to read quietly, you are saving yourself ALOT of hassle once he is older..... or dd is 3 months shy of turning 3, and sometimes will read or play in her room for a good hour and a half if she isn't ready to sleep, and i would much rather her do that than be up bugging me til all hours, if that makes sense. mummy needs her evening time too.
