Dunstan Baby Language DVD - Best thing Ive ever come across!
HI LADIES, IM A MUM OF TWO BOYS, 4 AND NEARLY 4 MONTHS AND I THOUGHT I WOULD PASS ON SOME WONDERFUL INFORMATION TO NEW MUMMIES.
BEFORE HAVING MY SECOND SON I CAME ACROSS A DVD CALLED DUNSTAN BABY LANGUAGE IN ANGUS AND ROBERTSON. IT IS THE MOST WONDERFUL AND HELPFUL THING I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS. BOTH OF MY KIDS WERE LITTLE ANGELS ANYWAY BUT IT STILL HELPED ME IN SUCH A BIG WAY SO JUST IMAGINE WHAT IT COULD DO FOR YOU MUMS THAT ARE HAVING A FEW STRUGGLES. BY ABOUT 5 WEEKS ADAM(MY SECOND BABY) WAS SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT FROM 8.30PM TIL ABOUT 8.30AM AND STILL DOES TO THIS DAY. HE DOESNT SLEEP A LOT THROUGH THE DAY BUT HES STILL VERY CONTENT AND I THINK ITS BECAUSE IM GETTING TO HIS NEEDS A LOT QUIKER.
IN A NUTSHELL THE DVD TEACHES YOU 5 DISTINCT BABY SOUNDS THAT HELP TO LET YOU KNOW WHATS WRONG WITH THEM.
THERES ONE FOR....
.HUNGER
.UPPER WIND
.LOWER WIND
.TIREDNESS
.UNCOMFY(WET/DIRTY NAPPIE, HOT OR COLD)
IM SO IMPRESSED WITH IT AND IT WORKS SO WELL THAT IM ACTUALLY GOING TO BECOME A BABY LAUNGUAGE TRAINER TO PASS ON THIS WONDERFUL GIFT TO ALL MUMS. I THINK THIS COULD BE THE LONG AWAITED BABY MANUAL WEVE LONGED FOR CENTURIES AND COULD BE THE END OR AT LEAST A DECREASE IN POST NATAL DEPRESSION.
CHECK OUT THE WEBSITE FOR MORE INFO AND FOR STOCKISTS
Thanks Mrs S for that info. I will be sure to check it out if you have had success with it. I have heard something liek this being spoken about on Oprah before. I thought it was an Australian lady who came up with it but maybe there are others.
I agree, I was given a copy before MJ was born and watched it a couple of times before while i was still pg (in the last 4 weeks i think)
Anyway, thought that i would take it with a pinch of salt, wasnt sure if t would really work...
Fast forward to 3 hours post c/s (emerg) i am alone in my room (its 1am) with my baby and she starts making noises, eh eh eh, suddenly i remember that this meant uppper wind, i carefully pick up my new bundle and she burps almost immediatly. i give her a quick cuddle and put her back down and we both go off to sleep.
I really had no sleepless nights other than when my milk came in, she was staving (neh neh neh all night long, she was trying to tell me) but the milk wasnt soming for her. I managed to know 90% of the time what her problem was and address it before she started to get upset... but week 4 i had DH, my sister, my Mum and Dad all trained and they too knew what she needed.
It was brilliant, i swear that this is why she slept through early and she is sooo incredibly content.
by the time that their noises change (around 3 months) i had figured out what she needed and i changed with her.
Alibaby - she is Aussie and it would have been what you saw on Oprah
I recommend watching it before giving birth if possible so that you know what to listen out for.
I used this dvd as well and it made life as a new mum so much easier! Baby was very content as his needs were met quicker!
I recommend it to everyone but it only works properly if you learn the signs your baby gives you from birth...their crying pitches change as they get older(like around 3months)
I saw her on Oprah too and it looked great! I was a bit skeptical but when I read more about it it made sense because it's because of their reflexes, like the sucking reflex they use when they're hungry changes the sound of their cry. I'm going to get it!
i agree with shoegal, if you can borrow it i would as it is rather expensive...
MJ prodominently made the neh, eh and ow sounds, i think that they dont necessarily make all the sounds, she rarely made lower wind, probaby cos i sorted upper wind, so thats why there was no 'aireh' and rarely 'huh' cos she was not often uncomfortable...
Oh im so glad some mummies have already put it to use!
I totally agree too that they dont make all the sounds but i guess its just more of a guide. Adam doesnt make the "ow" sound, he makes more of a "ware" sound when hes tired, but you get to know.
And yes hes doesnt make the lower wind sound much either because i always get the wind out when he starts the "eh" sound for upper wind.
I might put a link to this thread in the pregnancy section so mummies can read all about it before they give birth
This DVD came out when my DS was a few weeks old. DH and I were watching a program about it and trying to settle DS to sleep when we noticed he was making the noise for upper wind. We looked at each other - so I put him up on my shoulder, patted him on the back and he burped and was asleep about 20 seconds later.
We were amazed...and immediately placed an order for the DVD! Unfortunately it didn't arrive until after he was 12 weeks old but I'd remembered the noises and found it so useful. You've just reminded me to refresh my memory before Number Two shows up in 3 weeks' time!
Is there any point to these DVDs after 3 months? I swear my LO had become harder to read....his hunger signals used to be so clear, now I just can't tell!!!
nope not much use after around 3 months as they start to make new noises as it all changes, i found that MJ made very similar noises for tired, hungry and upper wind pain....
around 3 months babies start to experiment wth sounds and so the basic ones are not made as much....
the thing is that after 3 months you know the other signs or cues that your baby gives for certian things, and obviously your ay does just wake up one morning and not make the sounds, its a gradual thing and you learn as you are going iykwim
Amberj, its hard isnt it, just when you think that you have something figured t all changes again
I think it is too expensive for what it is. I borrowed it when Natty was a baby and I didn't find it particularly helpful. I think it is worth watching, but I'd borrow it rather than buy it.
Obviously you need to know that it isn't going to work all the time - babies don't always follow the rules But, if it helps parents feel more empowered and gives them more ideas on how to care for their baby, then it is worth looking at for sure.
