    Oh Lord This Decision Is Hard! Help!

    Ok, so Seven is now due for her 1st lot of immunisations.
    I am wanting to delay them until she is 2yrs old and then give them in a certain way, and not necessarily all of them
    DF is pro-vaccination.
    Seven did not have HepB at birth.

    There is SO much information for about immunisations that it's doing my head in. I'm not in for conspiracy theories, and I have made this decision for my own reasons, not anyone elses.
    I obviously still have to discuss it in full with DF.

    I received this 'user friendly' schedule from a friend and want to know what others think.

    No vaccines until 2yrs - child can develop their own 'healthy' immune system first.
    No vaccines that contain mercury or thiomersal - I know its minimal nowadays but the less the better.
    No live virus vaccines - unless smallpox becomes an issue again.
    These vaccines, 1 at a time, not combined, 6 months apart.
    * Pertussis (whooping cough), acellular, not whole cell
    * Diptheria
    * Tetanus
    * Polio (salk vaccine, cultured in Human Cells)

    Unfortunately this is from an American site and might not be viable in Australia, but I cannot find another alternative or delaying vaccination information that works for me.

    I just wish this was an easy decision to make.

    *sigh*

    Time to go off to find more info for DF to read about how vaccines are made, how effective they are and the chances of catching the disease if we don't vaccinate.

    If anyone has any other info or websites for me to go to, I would be eternally grateful.

    Thanks.

    I know some time ago I read a thread here and Schmickers (a dad and a nurse) posted in the thread a recommended user schedule (similar but in much more detail than your's) if people were going to be selective about vaccines. I tried to search for it but couldn't find it but if you private message him he should be able to recall it and could access his past posts. I think it might be what you are looking for!

    Hi there,

    Yes, immunisation is always a very difficult decision. Some time ago I posted this proposed schedule; it is essentially what we will do with our girls, although Molly's have been delayed even though she has started pre-school - honestly, I'm not entirely comfortable with that, but we are waiting until we can see a paediatrician we trust in Sydney before we give them to her.

    thanks for that link!

    we have just recently filed our CO letter with the GP and government. our GP totally got where we were coming from which was surprisingly comforting. we are hoping to delay any further vaccines until DD is 2+ (we followed the schedule to the 6 months).

    Everyone has the right to choose what they think is best for their child, but these days the chances of catching some of these diseases are fairly low (in developed countries anyway) only because of extensive immunisation programs, is there a right time to scale down these programs?

    Where is the schedule

    Some time ago I posted this proposed schedule
    This is all really useful information, thanks so much, but I can't seem to locate the schedule you are talking about? Please help as I think it is just what I am after. I am not against vaccinating at all but I suspect it is not necessary in those very early years when the baby is developing natural immunity. There is so much info out there you get to the point of throwing your hands in the air and going along with the crowd, especially as with two weeks to go I am very excited!!

    There really isn't any hurry to make a decision, you can always 'catch up' if you feel you want to, but as soon as you have vaxxed, there is no way to take it back if you decide it was the wrong decision, just keep reading and reseaching at your own pace until you come to a place of peace either way...

    All the best.

    Well, currently at the moment, Seven is 12 weeks old, and has not had any vaccinations. We are going to keep it that way until she is 2. I am happy with this.
