    My kids were all cut off before I came home I think... The clamp itself I mean...

    Yeah I asked for it to be taken off. It doesn't need to stay there till the cord drops off.

    cut the loop end. So not the end that clicks together, I think you need a special gadget to open them again once they are closed. All of mine have just had the "hinge" end cut to open them.

    Thanks for that, I have just put her down for the night, so I will take another look in the morning. It shouldn't effect the healing process should it?

    DD's was taken off on day 4 in hossie. The cord sttump just drops off after that. Cut the loop on the clamp with a pair of sidecutters (like pliers but with blades instead) or something

    nope, All of mine have healed the same, My first 2 kids the clamp stayed on till it fell off, the younger 2 I had it taken off as early as possible because my kids cords take at least 10 days to come off & its a PITB!

    All good I took her to see our Midwives at our hospital, and they cut if off for me, and gave me a stack of alcohol swaps to keep it clean, as it had a bit of meconium stuck under the clamp bit, but is not infected. It looks 100% better and much more comfortable Thanks for all the advice.

    Wow, you got it easy, my DD1's was on for 3 and a half weeks! She had the clamp removed from her almost immediately as she had a drip through her belly button.
    DD2 had the clamp stay on until it all fell off together, it didn't take as long as her sisters though.

    FM - Glad to hear that you got the clamp removed and it is doing well
