How much have you spent on take aways in the last 6 months?
We have a problem... DP works odd hours so a lot of the time it's "easier" for us to have take aways.
When DD2 came along (18months ago) i added it all up for the previous 6 months and showed DP he didn't think it was that bad... (it was!) so i stopped eating it in hopes he would too. He didn't. So i started eating it again too i figured why should he be able to waste all the money on himself.
Anyway now it's starting to get bad again... I don't know how to get him to see exactly how bad it is. So i though you ladies could share how much you have spent and i can show him this thread and it may help?
He has NO money skills he grew up with a mother that lived pay day to pay day and he does this himself. If there is money he can access he will spend it. On CRAP! I can't keep doing this. We have NO savings, at all! Any help/advice would be awesome TIA
About $50-150. We have it about 1-3 times a fortnight. But the take away where we live is very expensive and we have very little to chose from. We are trying to stop it too, more for health reasons, but the extra $$ in out bank account will be wonderful too, though I am finding it tough not to have it on the days I really can't be bothered to cook.
I'd say I would have takeaway about once a fortnight (until my fav takeaway shop burned down recently sob) and there's just me so I reckon $25/month would pull it up. Unless you count a cooked chook from the grocery about weekly and then that would add up to about $50or $60.
see that's how it should be IMO... I know i'm partly to blame here but when i say it's bad, it's REALLY bad! Almost $1500 in 129days It has to stop. I'm putting my foot down and i'm not going to cave this time...
We've probably had it twice in the last six months, though we plan a 'lazy' dinner once a week which is usually an omelette or toasted sandwich or something similar for when we know we won't want to cook
I write this as i eat pizza We are terrible. We own a pub and when we are not at work, the last thing we can be bothered doing is cooking. Me especially as i work in the kitchen. pizza for tea tonight, gillies pie for lunch today when we were out. No breaky as we slept in. Yesterday we had tea about 11:30pm, it was kfc, as that was the opportunity we had for someone to organise as we had a function at the pub. For us, a home cooked meal is a luxury.
ETA: We sound like we are big fatties! But we arent, not saying me & DH couldnt lose a few kgs, but teenage kids havent got an ounce of fat on them!
We have take away a bit (verying things including BBQ chook, noodles, asian, subway, pizza, pasta, maccas, kfc, nandos, pizza/pasta) probably spend about $250 a month. Thank includes DH buying lunch as well.
I can't remember the last time we ate takeaway BUT the girls and I eat lunch out quite a lot - probably 2-3 times per week. I reckon we spend about $150 a month doing that. Having said that, we then have smaller dinners so it probably balances out.
We had it once a week at about $50 but we have recently started going out for dinner instead which although expensive is a nicer option as we actually make a night of it.
Just for dinners, we have cut back to maybe once a fortnight to once a month, depending on what we are doing. I have tried to make a conscious effort to cook or plan what we are having for dinner. I found if I had planned my meals, we didn't get take away plus we really are trying to eat healthy foods. I do buy a BBQ chook now and then and I do buy take away coffee a few times a week. I don't know what to suggest to stop your DH eating it. If money isn't a factor for him then perhaps health benefits??
We have averaged $45 per week since November. That does include the quick supermarket dash for a BBQ chook, as I count that as takeaway. I thought it would be much worse, well it might be if I do the cashflow for the past 2 weeks. That also does not count specific meals out, like for Christmas, birthdays or catchup with friends.
Last 6 months? It's been pretty bad due to me being pregnant and working night shifts - I'll admit to buying it 3-4 times a week, but when I buy it, I'm usually only buying, say for example lunch at McDonalds, the $1 cheeseburgers/$2 double cheeseburgers or using shop a dockets that have 2 Whoppers from HJs for $6.
I admit, I should have been eating healthier and still should be, but it's the 'convenience' for me (I'm glad that DS really only likes the nuggets from places like McDonalds + HJs and doesn't really follow in my footsteps)

DH buys his lunch every work day but other than that not often, maybe only once a month so about $250 a month with $50 being the dinner! I think the key to changing this is having readily available options that seem appealling. I try to freeze small portions of leftovers for days off/me to take to work and plan ahead for 2 easy meals at home. So we often have eggs/beans on toast of a night for dinner. I also on occasion try to do a takeaway style meal - so wraps/souvlaki/home made pizza or even oven heat and eat fish and chips. This is partly because I am sick of spending lots of money on take away and then not even enjoying it as well as the health benefits, personal and budget wise. I have tried to get DH to take lunch but he is not a fan so I don't push it although it does add up.
We eat out about once a month at a restaurant, have take away about once a month for dinner and ouch out maybe once a fortnight. We budget $50 a week for that but that covers drinks etc and restaurant prices. We don't buy take away coffees and take lunches to work. I do home made pizza, tacos, chips etc for the kids instead of take away generally.
