    I need some insurance help

So, I guess pretty much the whole world knows I've been fighting the insurance company - I've been whinging about it a fair bit

Anyway, they've just knocked us back. Completely. I didn't expect it, I really only thought they would fight about the time period they needed to pay for, not knock us back.

    Dot point facts
    • I had a nervous breakdown in late May, had 3 weeks completely off work
    • Went back to work but only lasted a day
    • Continued to work when possible, no more than a day a week on average, until November
    • Had 12 rebated psychologist appointments, was on Zoloft for a while but didn't work
    • Am now seeing a psychiatrist, taking Lexapro and Valium
    • Condition has progressed to Agoraphobia, I rarely leave the house and only when absolutely necessary, I have frequent panic attacks, both triggered and untriggered
The insurance are saying they won't cover because it's a pre-existing condition. This is based on my history of depression, my severe reaction to Implanon, and a couple of appointments 7 years ago about anxiety.

I intend to appeal on the basis that despite my history, there is no way a reasonable person could expect that my history would develop into Agoraphobia, and that what stops me from working is not the depression but the anxiety. I mean honestly, if I had seen this coming, we would NOT have bought an investment block, and we certainly would NOT have taken out the personal loan in question.

So, I've emailed them back saying I would like to elevate the issue - anyone have knowledge for me? Anything at all would help, really.

What sort of insurance are you trying to claim? Income protection, Workers compensation?
I may be able to help if I knew what sort, and what state you are in as legislation is different everywhere!

When did you take the insurance out and what type of insurance is it? Can you get a copy of the form you filled in when you first took it out and the terms and conditions that applied at that time? Read through them with a fine tooth comb.

ALSO - if this is in relation to income protection arrangements, you should check whether the company that does your superannuation has any income insurance arrangements that you may be eligible to claim under.

And that's about the extent of my knowledge, sorry.
