I recently went to a private hospital I was thinking of going to (since had a miscarriage, but anyway.... ) even though we were not sure what was happening yet... I was told that I should book early... glad I didn't ... but that's beside the point....

what got me was when the nurse took us through the birthing suite and showed us the room etc... told us they had plenty of equipment etc, and then pointed to the bed and said...."it doesn't look very comfortable... but, it's better for us this way....."..... I was a bit gobsmacked to be honest....

I thought.... why should it be about what is best for them in the first instance!!! I get if there are complications that maybe OH&S considerations need to be taken into account... but I was taken aback - I had heard good things about this hospital and it surprised me...

to be honest, if I had not been on BB, I might not have even thought about it.... having never given birth before, I just take for granted, that the professionals know what they are doing... but this attitude really annoyed me!! Not woman centered at all...!

If I want to squat, I will squat.... if you want to look, you are just going to have to get down on the floor....

... but I will work on getting pregnant again first!!!

thank goodness for the BB community - it has taught me so much - but it scares me that I have to be such an advocate for myself....
