Alan or other midwife? Was in active labour but then nothing?

I was in active labour and then my midwife asked if I would like to go home and spend as much time as possible at home and I was a bit apprehensive because contractions hurt and he was doing a great job of taking my mind off of things but I went home anyway. Well I had my last contraction in the car on the way home at about 11:30am and it is now 3:51pm and there has not been another contraction. Why is this happening? Don't get me wrong, I was able to get some sleep but now it looks like an induction for the AM and I really wanted to avoid this. Not so possible with ruptured membranes and GBS though...Could my fear of labouring at home done this? I thought it worked the other way around What can I do to get things going again. I go to the hossy again at 6 for my next dose of antibiotics

Sarah, perhaps you can try some nipple stimulation to try and get your contractions to start up again hun. Are you sure it was active labour ? Were you put on the monitor in hosp ? Did they check for any dilation ?

The best thing I would tell you is to get yourself upright, go for a walk and get some nipple stimulation happening. Don't over do it though, you don't want to wear yourself out either.

Good luck sweetheart. Hopefully little Noah will be here with you before the night is out.

By active labour what do you mean? Regular contractions? Active labour contractions are from 4cm dilation and are around 60 seconds long every 5 mins or so... is that what it was? As it may be pre-labour or early labour if not.

You could perhaps negotiate more time as you have been having contractions, they cant force you to.

I am 4cm dialated and was having 60 sec contractions every 3 minutes. I have now had 3 since 11 am. I am now getting induced at 8am tomorrow morning if the contractions don't start on their own. So much for birth plans eh? I have a feeling it stopped becuase I went home, I should have stayed at the hospital, I felt really comfortable with my midwife, he is a bit of a legend around here and for good reason. I had to go back to the hossy for my antibiotics for gbs, as I got out of the car I had a contraction and when I got inside, the mood of the place had changed since earlier and I did not want to be there. My 2 favorite midwives are on tomorrow so hopefully I can hold out until they are on after a good sleep with the sleeping pills the doc gave me. A bit worried about the reprocusions of an induced labour though...

You dont have to accept an induction (well augmentation it is called now labour has started). They will put you on the drip at 4cms. You can try nipple stimulation, that gets oxytocin going. You should probably try and sleep now as you will need lots of energy for the rest of your labour. Ask for another 24 hours and see what happens. The ball is in your court not theirs.

Thanks Annie, it is hard to be excited when I am in such a terrible mood.

Kelly, I am starting to think I want to avoid the induction thing after reading about syntocin, scarey stuff. I might try the nip stim in the morning before I leave for the hospital. I might see if Juz will do accupressure on the spleen 6 as well. Anything to avoid flat out painful contractions, the ones I was having earlier were more than enough :S

It definitely starts the cascade of intervention... but if you find that labour doesn't get going in a few days or whatever, you can have a positive experience with it. Any anxiety now can hinder labour, so a nice sleep, think positive thoughts and affirmations and talk to your baby and tell him to get a move on Lots of connecting and relaxing and positive thinking

All my contractions have slowed down once I arrived at the hospital.

I found that jumping in a warm shower helped relax me enough to pick things up again - maybe try a shower before you go to bed.

All the best - keep us posted.

I would say to just wait it out. Coz my labour stopped at 5cms and then i had the drip and i wish i never did. Coz i was having a natural labour up to that point, which is what i really wanted.
